FAMISHED Clarets fans can tackle a new lunchtime treat – thanks to the mum of super sub Jay Rodriguez.
Because Jay’s mum Carol, and Karen Licastri, who run the Filling Station, in Leeds Road, Nelson, have devised a range of butties modelled on the Premier League new boys.
For the hungry hordes, you can’t beat The Beast – bacon, sausage, egg and tomato – based on keeper Brian Jensen.
Or for those on the go, there’s Alexander The Great-ed – a cheese and onion effort named after the Clarets defensive lynchpin.
Owen Coyle, who has already been immortalised in pastry this week by bakers Holland’s, is the inspiration for Gaffer’s Dream (chicken tikka and cheese).
And Carol couldn't let her lad down when it came to the sporty menu – naturally he has a sausage, bacon and tomato ‘super sub’ with his moniker.
Carol, from the Casterton Avenue area of Burnley, said: “When we told Jay about it he just laughed at us. But he needs a couple of super subs to help keep his strength up.”
Karen said the butty range, which has gone down well with football-mad customers, was devised shortly before the Clarets’ trip to Wembley.
“Now we’re thinking of having some new butties like a prawn salad one for when Manchested United play,” she added.
