BURNLEY remain in pole position to sign Leeds United left-back Charlie Taylor this summer.

As reported by the Lancashire Telegraph last week the Clarets have set their sights on Taylor to provide competition for Stephen Ward in Sean Dyche's squad.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at Elland Road this summer and can join another club from Saturday (July 1).

But as he is under the age of 24 the Whites will be due compensation and Burnley are yet to agree a deal with Leeds for Taylor's services, although it is understood personal terms will be a formality if the two clubs can come to an agreement.

Alternatively the Clarets could press ahead with a deal for Taylor and let a tribunal set a fee, although they have yet to make a decision on whether to proceed with that course of action, with Leeds confident of receiving a fee in the region of £5million for their academy graduate.

West Brom had been favourites to sign Taylor for most of this summer, but they failed to reach a deal with Leeds and were reluctant to go to a tribunal for Taylor's services, turning their attention to other targets as a result.

Over the weekend Celtic were linked with a move for Taylor and if the left-back took the option to move to Scotland Leeds would only be due a fraction of the compensation they could expect from an English club.
