STEVEN Defour is back in contention for tomorrow's trip to Goodison Park after coming through a week of training without any problems.

And he could be joined in the Clarets' squad by Johann Berg Gudmundsson, with manager Sean Dyche rating the Icelander as 'borderline' to make the grade to face Everton.

Belgium international midfielder Defour has struggled with injuries during his debut season at Turf Moor and only returned from a two-month spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury last week against Stoke.

But he was forced off nursing a thigh strain in the 1-0 win over the Potters and was not involved in the 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough last weekend.

Defour has yet to complete 90 minutes in 16 Premier League starts so far and last week Dyche admitted he had taken a while to get used to the demands of the English top flight.

But the 28-year-old could get the chance to impress tomorrow when Burnley travel to Merseyside looking for that elusive first away win of the season.

"Steven Defour had a knock but he will be back for selection – he's trained all week," said Dyche.

"We knew it was a knock, but he's been in and out of the side with injuries so we had to be careful with that one last week."

Gudmundsson has endured a similarly frustrating first season with the Clarets, making just 10 league starts and spending the last two months on the treatment table with knee ligament damage he sustained in the FA Cup third round defeat to Lincoln City.

But he played a full game for the development squad this week, scoring both goals in a 2-2 with Derby County, and is edging closer to a first-team return, although Dyche may feel he needs another run-out with the Under-23s.

"Johann has come through a reserve game," said the Clarets boss.

"He might need one more but he has generally trained all week and been clear.

"It's a borderline one because we've just got to make sure.

"His injury took longer than we thought, so just to make sure he's absolutely clear."
