AFTER making his third Premier League appearance for Burnley at Swansea recently Paul Robinson said he had never been in a dressing room with as much 'heart and desire' as the one he occupied at Turf Moor.

It was a mighty claim for a man who has made 375 Premier League appearances for four different clubs as well as winning more than 40 England caps.

The 37-year-old highlighted it as a crucial factor in Burnley's success and it is a statement that Clarets chief Sean Dyche has backed, and he believes it as essential ingredient if a side such as Burnley is to progress.

"Belief and teamship is an important factor," Dyche said. "Although we’ve spent some money this year we’re not cherry picking some of the best technical players in Europe like many clubs are, so that team unity and belief and the will and desire as a group that Robbo spoke about is an important factor, but that’s an important factor even if you have got fantastic talent."

Dyche believes having that spirit and unity can help create a mentality that can pull you out of difficult situations.

He insists those characteristics have also been important in Burnley's rise during his Turf Moor tenure, which has included two promotions and now a mid-table positions in the Premier League.

Dyche also highlighted the part mentality can play with even the biggest sides, such as the winning mentality that was so prevalent at Old Trafford during the Sir Alex Ferguson years and the culture that helped Barcelona believe they could turn their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain around.

"The turnaround at Barcelona won’t just be about talent, that’s about a culture that is at Barcelona," Dyche said. "Man United had that for many years under Sir Alex, they had the winning mentality and that is often fostered from that team ethic, it’s not just the technical ability.

"We have to have that as part of our group to get what we’ve got and to get what we want to get. Clear minds, a good group ethic, good belief in each other and what we do."
