WELL what a result that was, eh?

I have to say that anyone who saw my Twitter feed on Sunday morning – or indeed the 11 other brave souls who drag their backsides out of bed for my usual six-a-side at 9am on Sunday – will have noted that I did say we’d get something.

I just had a real feeling that everything was aligned in our favour.

The conditions were perfect – windy, snowy – and our formidable home record means we’re able to give anyone a good game at the Turf.

It didn’t start well. Pedro gave Antonio Conte’s runaway leaders the lead after just seven minutes and it looked like it could be a very long afternoon indeed.

But that proved to be Chelsea’s final shot on target and we started to grow into the game.

Ashley Barnes had two efforts, the second close to taking the head off a small child, before we drew level through a fantastic debut free-kick from Robbie Brady.

As soon as Joey Barton, who was an absolute rock in the centre of the park alongside Brady’s fellow full-debutant Ashley Westwood, was fouled 25 yards out, Mystic Greaves’ crystal ball foresaw a goal.

And Brady didn’t disappoint, firing a near-perfect set-piece beyond the despairing dive of Thibaut Courtois.

What makes it even more remarkable is that it was the first direct free-kick Chelsea have conceded in over four years. Pick that out!

Scores level and the Clarets sensed their London guests were not perhaps fancying the East Lancashire winter weather.

We had a golden chance to move ahead before half-time but Courtois saved superbly with his legs to deny the impressive Matt Lowton, who found himself one-on-one with the Belgian after a cute Barton pass.

There’s no doubting Chelsea had plenty of possession but aside from a few wayward Pedro shots, Tom Heaton was a virtual spectator.

Andre Gray had a chance just after the break, a weak shot straight at Courtois after Ashley Barnes had nipped the ball off Gary Cahill on halfway.

Chelsea kept pushing forward but the defence did well to keep Diego Costa and Eden Hazard quiet.

With the results going our way on Saturday, the point against Chelsea was a bonus one but there’s no doubt the confidence it will breed, especially going into a run of away games over the next few weeks.
