BURNLEY are looking up the table rather than down after hitting the 30 point mark, says Matt Lowton.

A Turf Moor draw with leaders Chelsea took the Clarets 10 points clear of the drop zone and means they have now matched their points total from the 2009/10 campaign with 13 games still to play, and they are only three points behind the total they accrued in 2014/15.

Both of those campaigns ended with relegation, but Burnley are well placed to beat the drop this time around.

“We’re on the way to where we want to be,” said Lowton. “At this stage of the season to have 30 points on the board is brilliant for us.

“We’re trying to look up as much as anything at this stage. We’ve got 30 points on the board already and we’ve put ourselves in a great position to stay in this league.”

Lowton was full of praise for Burnley’s resolve against Chelsea as they secured a point despite conceding inside the first 10 minutes.

“We went behind early and they would have been thinking at that point that they were in for another win,” he added.

“We stuck together and Rob’s fantastic free-kick got us back in. From there I thought we grew into the game and probably made the better chances.

“It’s one of the traits we’ve got, we stick together. We didn’t lose our heads, we stuck to the game plan and ultimately it worked for us.”

Burnley could have taken all three points against the leaders with Lowton denied by Thibaut Courtois.

“I (probably) should have scored,” he said. “I don’t often get in those positions.

“I looked up and Courtois was coming at me. I tried to keep it close to his legs so it was hard to react but he made a great save.”
