BEN Mee is targeting personal victory to help the team tomorrow as he tries to keep Chelsea striker Diego Costa quiet.

The Blues striker has 15 goals in 22 Premier League games this season but has a reputation for the darker arts of the game as well as his goalscoring prowess.

Mee believes the former Atletico Madrid striker's disciplinary indiscretions - he has twice been banned for three games by the FA for incidents not punished at the time but picked up by the TV cameras - overshadow what a good player he is.

"I think he's obviously a very good player. One of them who'll put themselves about as well as having the quality that he shows, and I don't think he gets as much credit as other players for having that quality," said the 27-year-old.

"He's fantastic on the ball, he's got a lot of good qualities and it's going to be a tough test for us but one we'll relish and enjoy. That's what you want to do, play against these players and test yourself."

Costa's style sees him play on the edge and he has occasionally crossed the line as well, with 25 bookings in his two-and-a-half years in England as well as one red card and his two other suspensions.

But Mee admits he's a fan of Costa's aggressive style and wouldn't want to see the 28-year-old take that away from his game.

"I like that about him, that he's got that edge about him, and you wouldn't want to take that away from him," said the former Manchester City youngster.

"If he's in your side he's one you really want on your team and fighting for everything for the group of lads he plays for.

"It adds to the battle you're playing against someone who is going to give you a good test and it's one you enjoy, you've got to do the best yourself and it certainly makes you work harder and try and get the better of him.

"It's getting the better of the striker you're up against – there's been a few good tests this season and I'm sure there's many more to come. Sunday is going to be a good test and I want to come out on top."

Mee admits Chelsea's visit will be the sternest examination of Burnley's stunning home record so far.

They are seeking an eighth successive home win against the league leaders and a 10th Turf Moor Premier League win of the season, and Mee believes that record will have Chelsea paying them due respect on Sunday.

"I think they’ll have seen teams come to our place and get beaten or have tough games and probably sit up and take notice," he said.

"I think we're a different proposition to other teams around the league and we take pride in that for sure.

"I don't think they'll be expecting an easy game. If they are they'll have a surprise. We're going to make it as hard for them as possible, we'll play our own game and make it difficult for them to play."
