SEAN Dyche has hailed the Turf Moor crowd for the role they have played in Burnley’s impressive home record this season.

The Clarets are back on their own Turf this weekend when they host Southampton in the Premier League looking for an eighth home win of the campaign.

Only Chelsea and Tottenham have won more home games this season than Dyche’s side, who have taken 22 of their 23 Premier League points in front of their own fans.

Burnley have won three in a row at home and five of their last six, with the only setback in that time the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the end of November, and ahead of the visit of the Saints this weekend Dyche has praised the role of the fans.

“It’s helpful when we’re at home that we’ve got a strong crowd who get behind the team and they want well of the club and the area,” said the Clarets chief. “There’s a real connection between the fans and the team.

“It doesn’t guarantee you anything but it gives you a better chance when that feeling in the stadium is positive and behind the team and we’ve got that at Turf Moor.”

While Burnley’s home form is impressive they have just one point from nine away games in the top flight this season.

But Dyche isn’t too concerned about that record while they continue to pick up points at home.

“A lot is made of can we take that on the road and build our performances, but you have to get points on the board no matter where they come from, that’s the key,” he said.

“At the end of the season, no one will care, they’ll just say ‘did you get enough?’

“I’m very pleased with that return, particularly at home, because it’s tough away from home. You’ve got to try and get your home form right, the crowd here, over the last three or four seasons have been mostly excellent, particularly the last three, and the belief within them is important, they allow the players the chance to play, and the players have earned that.”
