BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche was happy to hear of the praise his side received from his opposite number Pep Guardiola, but insisted he wasn’t concerned what other managers thought of him.

The Catalan boss backed the Clarets to survive in the Premier League after his title favourites emerged from Turf Moor unscathed with a 2-1 victory.

Dean Marney had given Burnley hope of pulling off yet another upset, but two Sergio Aguero goals gave City the win.

After hearing of Guardiola’s respect for his side, Dyche said he expected the Etihad chief to have been given the lowdown by Brian Kidd, and insisted his focus was on finding a way for his side to win games.

“Managers often understand, not always, what we are,” said Dyche.

“He’ll have spoken, I imagine, to Kiddo, who I know well, and he’ll have said, this is what they are, they maximise what they are.

“That’s my style of management, if I had their team, we’d work on a completely different game plan, but I haven’t, so we work on one that suits my team.

“I don’t worry what people think of me, it’s about what we can do to achieve things, and there’s a clear focus. I’m not pontificating, that’s my focus, getting the team in a position to win games, no matter who you’re playing, and against teams like this, we have to change the whole feel of how we play sometimes.”

Guardiola had been respectful of Burnley before the match and repeated his comments after seeing his side win.

“Today was so important, to have won, because it is so complicated to control it, you have to defend long balls, they play wide with the full backs and wingers, crosses, corners, throw ins and free kicks,” he said.

“It is a tough game and hopefully in the future we can control it better.”

Asked if Burnley could stay up, Guardiola said: “Of course. Before the game they were the second best in the league in home games, just Chelsea better.

“I saw the game against Liverpool, against Arsenal, so tough, what they do, they do it well. “I’m really impressed because it doesn’t matter the way you want to play, it’s important to do it properly, and they do it really good.”
