IT WAS another disappointing away day at Southampton and I don’t think this current system is working for us on the road.

When you play the 4-5-1 at home it’s kind of working, but away from home they’re not threatening the final third enough.

MORE TOP STORIES:

It’s trying to find something that suits the players. Sean Dyche likes his two up front and he’s got those three midfielders, so maybe it’s worth a look at the 3-5-2 and James Tarkowski comes in.

There’s ways to find options. With our next away game being at Manchester United it might be worth looking for a change.

The current system doesn’t seem to work away from home so it may be worth experimenting, they need to grind out some results away from home.

I’d definitely be looking at a back five. The wingers are ineffective so don’t play with winger away from home, go with wing backs.

You’ve got Stephen Ward who can do the job, Tendayi Darikwa likes to bomb on so maybe he can do it on the right. That gives us two strikers up top as well and a third centre half will make us more solid at the back, especially when it comes to set pieces, because we look very vulnerable at the moment in that department.

At the moment every time that ball comes in our box we look all over the place, it happened in the last minute against Arsenal and twice against Southampton, you’ve got to mark your men.

As a player I generally liked playing away from home, I didn’t think there was as much pressure, you haven’t got 20,000 home fans watching your every move.

A lot of it is about mindset. It’s how you approach the game. At home you can be in your comfort zone, you know the atmosphere and know what to expect, your preparation is always the same and you take it in your stride and it’s nothing new.

Away from home it can be different. It’s the same pitch and the same game but the surroundings are different.

But you’ve got to try and work that to your advantage, you’ve got to enjoy it and express yourself.

I used to be more confident away from home, but every player is different.

Burnley were on the wrong end of another poor decision as well. They should have had a clear penalty at 0-0 and that could be a game changer. Score it and you have something to hang on to and you can sit back, there’s no emphasis on you to get forward any more.

Decisions aren’t going well for us at the moment, especially with the Arsenal game, but that’s football and hopefully it will turn soon.

If Steven Defour isn’t fit for Everton at home I’d stick with the same system, especially in the first half.

You don’t need to win the game in the first half.

Whether it’s young Aiden O’Neill or Scott Arfield I’d stick with the three-man midfield and see how it goes, with the option of bringing Patrick Bamford on in the second half.
