WELL another international break has been and gone and I can’t say that I caught more than 10 minutes of action across the two games.

Watching England, especially outside of major tournaments, just doesn’t interest me one bit.

It was great to see Michael Keane join Tom Heaton in the squad but unless either of them were going to get any game time, I certainly wasn’t going to tune in!

And it looks like I made the right decision. It could be worse though, I could be a Scotland fan! (Only joking!)

Talking of Tom Heaton, I’m hoping his withdrawal from the Three Lions with a slight injury isn’t going to stop him taking up his position between the sticks at Southampton on Sunday.

He has been fantastic for us this season and the test against the Saints will be a big one.

With a couple of ex-Clarets among their ranks it is a big game for us.

Charlie Austin has started the season brightly with five goals in seven appearances in all competitions.

We know he’s a big threat and the battle between him and the Burnley backline, should he start for Claude Puel’s side, is sure to be fascinating.

He’s probably unlike any other striker we’ve faced so far this season so it will be a new test for Keane and defensive partner Ben Mee.

Jay Rodriguez is also looking to feature after a return from injury and I just hope – after Sunday at least – he can put his woes behind him and really kick on.

Injuries haven’t been kind to Jay but I’m confident that if he gets a run in the Southampton side he’ll be back to his best and banging on the England door again.

From our own point of view, and this may sound daft, but I think Southampton will be the toughest task we’ve faced so far.

I know we have already been to Chelsea and champions Leicester but the style of football Southampton play is different to those two.

I think it will be a real yardstick in terms of where we’re at, especially ahead of a run of tough fixtures.

Anything can happen in front of the Sky cameras though and I’m hoping we might be on the end of a bit of better luck this time around.

Although with Mike Dean in charge I’m not sure we can count on luck. . .
