BURNLEY'S Belgian Steven Defour is delighted to be back in the international fold under Roberto Martinez - and wants to help the golden generation win a major tournament.

The 28-year-old made his first appearance for the Red Devils since 2014 last week, coming on as a substitute in the friendly with Spain.

That came just two weeks after he completed his £7.5million move to the Premier League and Turf Moor, and Defour wants to continue his fine start to life with the Clarets and keep his place in Martinez's squad.

"It feels nice, hard work pays off and I hope to continue to perform like this," he said. "There's some really amazing players and we have an amazing squad, I hope we can do some nice things.

"They say it's the golden age but you have to get a prize with that."

Defour has started three games for Burnley since his move from Anderlecht and he scored his first goal in the 1-1 draw with Hull City on Saturday, brilliantly creating space in midfield with a smart turn before lashing a 25-yard shot into the back of the net.

"It was a good goal, I saw the space and I took my chance," he said.

"I saw the midfielder and I turned away. I went for the space and I scored a goal.

"I was reading the direction of the defender and he was staying with Andre (Gray) so I had to shoot.

"I've scored a few nice goals and this one was very nice also.

"It was a bit disappointing we couldn't win. We worked hard as a team to get the three points. It was the last kick but we couldn't do anything about it."

Burnley travel to the King Power Stadium to face champions Leicester City on Saturday, and while Defour followed the Foxes tale last season as they stunned the rest of the league, he believes the Clarets could get a result in this most unpredictable league.

"All year everybody was doubting them but they kept on winning and deserved to win the league," he said.

"I think everybody followed that story around the world. If you win the Premier League everybody knows about it and when it's Leicester it's even bigger news.

"If we continue to work like this we have a good chance to stay in the league. Everybody can win from everybody and everybody can lose to everybody, we have to keep on working."
