I CAN fully understand why Clarets fans might be getting a bit worried about the lack of signings at Turf Moor this summer, writes Paul Weller.

It’s at a point now where the club needs to bring players in pretty quickly and not be leaving it until August.

You need to get them in with the current players, get them to the same fitness levels and understanding what the team’s about because Burnley is different.

Burnley is about hard work and graft, and adding a little bit of quality to that is desperately important, but if you leave it too late we’ll end up in September bottom of the league with no points.

We need to bring some quality in and the sooner the better.

For me, there has to be a massive drive and need from the manager to get these players in.

You can blame the board and recruitment, but at the end of the day the manager needs to push the go button on a few of these deals and speak to the board to up the price.

We need these players in really, really quickly.

Burnley had offers for Jeff Hendrick and Dale Stephens turned down earlier this week.

I think you’ve got to bring three or four players like those two, and maybe add one or two gems just above that and pay a little bit more.

But Brighton and Derby are not going to let good players go for £3or £4m.

Our good players, like Michael Keane, are £15m, so stop insulting the other clubs and put in proper offers if that’s what you want.

Stop pleading the old, “Burnley have only ever paid this, Burnley have only ever done that” – we’ve got to work to the market we’re in now.

You look at Bournemouth. They’ve only been in the Premier League for a season and they’re prepared to spend £15m on a player in Liverpool’s Jordan Ibe.

I don’t expect that from Burnley yet, but you’ve got to start having aspirations of bringing a lot more £5m to £7m players in maybe try to get to that £10m player on a superstar.

At the end of the day, this is the third time up in seven years, so we’ve got to really start to look about and beyond, aim a little bit higher and next year believe we can stay in this Premier League.
