DEFENDER Ben Mee believes Burnley are a club on the move after committing his future to Turf Moor by signing a new three-year contract.

Mee was outstanding last year, particularly after his switch from left-back to the centre of defence, a move which coincided with the start of the Clarets 23-game unbeaten run to the title.

The 26-year-old was voted players’ player of the year and won six supporters club's player of the year awards as well.

The former Manchester City youngster had just 12 months remaining on his current deal and had attracted the interest of West Bromwich Albion earlier this summer, but he has now put pen to paper on an extension until the summer of 2019.

After signing the deal Mee said how comfortable he now felt at Burnley as he closes in on 200 games for the club, a mark he should hit next season.

“It’s brilliant and I’m delighted to extend my stay here at Burnley,” he said.

“After such a great season last year, and getting married in the summer, things just keep getting better and hopefully it will improve even more.

“I feel comfortable and at home here and we’ve been chatting for a while. Obviously it’s been a busy summer, so it was something we put on a back burner, but it was always going to get done.”

Mee’s decision to commit his future to the Clarets comes at a time when uncertainty surrounds his defensive partner Michael Keane.

The former Manchester United youngster has been the subject of a failed bid that could have totalled £15million from Premier League champions Leicester City earlier this summer.

He has since rejected a four-year contract to stay at Turf Moor, and although there are two years left on his existing deal, the Foxes could be set to return with a new offer.

But Mee believes Burnley are moving in the right direction and he wants to play his part in keeping the club in the Premier League next team.

“This club is going somewhere at the minute,” he said. “It’s been ever–changing throughout my time here and you can see the things going on at the training ground and the way the team is going.

“It’s exciting and we’re definitely moving forwards. Now I just want to help keep the team in the Premier League. That’s my short-term goal and I want to be a big part of it.

“There’s a togetherness and a will to do well and I am sure that will stand us in good stead.”
