BURNLEY'S Joey Barton is in talks with Rangers over a move to Ibrox with the Scottish side confident of completing a deal for the midfielder, according to reports north of the border.

The 33-year-old has been at the club's Murray Park training ground today for talks with a two year deal at Rangers on the table.

Barton was a key figure in Burnley's Championship winning team this season after signing a one-year contract last August.

He was voted as the fans' player of the year at the club's recent awards night and, after promotion was clinched against Queens Park Rangers, Barton insisted he wanted to stay at Turf Moor.

But the former Newcastle midfielder wanted more than the one-year deal that was on the table from the Clarets.

Barton spoke on talkSPORT on Thursday and again stated his desire to stay with at Burnley, saying talks are ongoing. He was brought to Turf Moor by Frank McParland, Burnley's sporting director at the time.

But McParland quit Turf Moor last October to join former Brentford boss Mark Warburton at Ibrox as head of recruitment.
