AS ANOTHER glorious chapter is written into the history of Burnley Football Club it’s time to reflect upon what has been a truly tremendous season with a few awards.

What a great day down at Charlton on Saturday to clinch the title in fine style. Although Tom Heaton kept us in the game with two outstanding saves, as the match progressed so did the relentless Clarets in another convincing 3-0 victory.

MORE TOP STORIES:

And what a night it was at their promotion parade as what seemed like half the town turned out to celebrate the greatest achievement for a generation of fans as Burnley were at last presented with the trophy for the title they last won forty three years ago.

But more than anything what a year it’s been as the Clarets remain unbeaten in the league throughout 2016. A fantastic achievement, particularly in this day and age of cut-throat, all out competitiveness.

That is for the future of course, but for one glorious summer at least , irrespective of the weather, Burnley fans can bask in the reflective glory of their amazing football club which has achieved its aim through the managership of the exceptional Sean Dyche who we must hope will once again want to face the formidable challenge of keeping us in the top tier against the odds.

There’s been some outstanding team displays to grind out results, with each and every player deserving credit for that. There have also been some really inspirational performances, but every side has to have a strong backbone in order to succeed and that has been the case for Burnley.

Goalkeeper and captain Tom Heaton has certainly enhanced his claim for inclusion in the England squad with some breathtaking saves. The solid twin centre-half partnership of Michael Keane and Ben Mee seems to have starkly improved both players. Andre Gray has done the business of both scoring and creating goals, with the able assistance of striking partner Sam Vokes.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Yet it has to be said the catalyst for our promotion push came with the acquisition of the enigmatic midfield general Joey Barton who gets my player of the season.

As a marked man each time he steps on to the pitch, he has been the player singled out to get stuck into from the opposition, and yet he has certainly been the biggest influence on our squad through his leadership qualities.

GOAL OF THE SEASON

That is a tight choice between two venomous strikes from Scott Arfield. The one at Brentford was a well-worked team goal, but for its sheer enormity the goal and subsequent pitch-long celebration at Ewood Park has to take it.

MOST VITAL MOMENT OF THE SEASON

Again there are two, with both being scored in added on time to take two crucial points away from our promotion rivals by the same player. Step forward Michael Keane to win that award for those precious late equalisers against Brighton away and Middlesbrough at home.

CHANT OF THE SEASON

For sheer simplicity, the repetitive Ben Mee lyrics to the ‘Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to work we go’ song deserves a mention. I first aired it on a raucous night at Fulham, and it took off from there. Sorry Ben.

Up until then we didn’t have a chant for a regular mainstay of the team so I attempted to rectify that and aired it on a raucous night at Fulham, and once fans ‘learnt’ the words it took off.

Sorry Ben, but the thought was there, and once it’s in your head you just can’t help but sing it with a smile on your face.
