BURNLEY are set to find out how much they will get for striker Danny Ings when a tribunal meets in Manchester this week.

Ings left the Clarets for Liverpool last summer when his contract expired and the two clubs have been unable to agree a fee between themselves for the 23-year-old.

A tribunal will now meet tomorrow and, if required, Wednesday, to set the compensation fee Burnley are due for the striker who scored 43 goals in 130 games for the club.

Liverpool offered £4million for Ings in January 2015, a bid that was rejected by the Clarets who were determined to hang on to their star man until the end of the Premier League campaign.

The Anfield club have been reluctant to go much beyond that figure, but Burnley have been holding out for at least £8million.

They are hopeful that the fee will set a new record for a tribunal, eclipsing the £6.5million Chelsea had to pay Manchester City for Daniel Sturridge in 2010.

However there is no guarantee the two clubs will find out the fee this week. The tribunal panel could decide to retire to consider the evidence and inform the clubs at a later date.

Ings scored 11 goals in the Premier League for Burnley and had a made fast start to life at Anfield, scoring three goals in his first eight games before suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in October that has kept him out since then.

Ings has also made his England debut since moving to Liverpool, appearing as a substitute in the 3-0 win in Lithuania in Euro 2016 qualifying.

However the fee set by the tribunal will be based on his value at the time of his move, rather than his performances since.

Speaking about the case the Clarets were putting forward, chief executive Dave Baldwin recently said: “The reason it is different to the ordinary is this tribunal claim will be the biggest in history. The key to this was that we bring the claim against Liverpool, therefore we had to prepare an extremely robust case.

“You’re talking a documentation bundle of probably in excess of 400 or 500 pages with witness statements, evidence, analytics about player performance, the statement as to why we make a judgment as to what we believe the player is worth, compared to what Liverpool want to offer.”
