SEAN Dyche was pleased to chalk up another point on the board as Burnley maintained an impressive run of results during a tough spell of Championship fixtures.

The Clarets are now unbeaten in five games, four of which have been against teams in the top 10, and three of those away from home.

After the 3-0 Boxing Day defeat at Hull Burnley were eight points off the automatic promotion spots but following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday they are now just three points off the top two.

“I’m really pleased with it – another point on the road,” Dyche said of the Hillsborough draw.

“We’re in a tough run of games but we’re getting a lot of points on the table.

“They’re a decent side and we’ve taken four points off them this season. It bodes well, it doesn’t guarantee anything but we’re in a good vein of form at the minute. We’re going well.”

Andre Gray’s 18th Burnley goal gave Dyche’s side a fourth-minute lead, but they were pegged back in the second half by Kieran Lee’s equaliser.

And Dyche felt a point apiece was a fair result on a boggy pitch that deteriorated during the game.

“A draw was probably fair overall, but I think we arguably had the best chance of the game which we unfortunately didn’t take after a great cross and a great bit of movement from Sam Vokes,” said the Clarets chief.

“Both teams attempted to play on a really tough pitch.

“They obviously made a change with Nuhiu coming in so they went back to front quicker, which I don’t think is normal.

“I’m not being derogatory, I just think they felt that the pitch wasn’t that playable. Both teams attempted to play and overall I think it was just about right.”

The only downside for Dyche was the lack of fluency from his side in the final third of the pitch.

“We kept giving the ball away – not in the defensive third or the middle third,” he said.

“I thought we were very secure with our play and we mixed it well but we just didn’t have that detail to the game that we’ve had lately. We’ve had plenty of good days with lots of goals going in. That was the only question mark over my lads.”
