BURNLEY are still hoping to secure the signing of Brentford defender James Tarkowski on deadline day.

The Clarets have agreed a fee, thought to be an initial £3million up front with add-ons to follow, with the Bees for their top transfer target.

Mancunian Tarkowski, who wants to return to the North West to look after his mum, who has an incurable illness, underwent a medical earlier today and is expected to sign for the Clarets before tonight's 11pm deadline, although the move is yet to be confirmed.

And despite national newspaper reports the signing of Tarkowski would not impact on Michael Keane's Burnley future.

The England Under-21 international was once again linked with Stoke City earlier today, with reports the signing of Tarkowski could see Keane leave to join the Premier League Potters.

But, as player and club have insisted previously during this window, Keane will remain at Turf Moor beyond tonight's deadline.

As things stand Tarkowski looks like being the only new arrival at Turf Moor today, with Burnley not in for Norwich City's Graham Dorrans.

For the second winter transfer window in a row the Clarets have been linked with the Scotland midfielder.

Twelve months ago he signed for Norwich from West Bromwich Albion, but earlier today reports emerged of a possible loan move to Turf Moor from the Canaries.

But that is a deal that won't be happening, despite Burnley missing out on Brentford's Alan Judge, who has confirmed he is staying at Griffin Park, and Tottenham's Alex Pritchard, who has instead joined West Brom on loan.
