ROUWEN Hennings is hoping to be able to use his first Burnley goal to help forge a strike partnership.

When Sam Vokes was ruled out with a groin strain after the international break, Hennings was picked to play alongside Andre Gray in the 1-1 home draw with Brighton, in which he was unlucky not to beat goalkeeper David Stockdale.

But the German was replaced a week later for the trip to Cardiff City, when the task instead fell to Chris Long.

But after coming off the bench to play a key role in earning a late draw, sparking the comeback with his 85th-minute strike, Hennings is targeting a return to the starting line-up.

“I want to play every game, with Andre, with Sam, with Longy – with everybody. We want to play and we want to win and we want to score goals and I hope we continue,” said the 28-year-old, who joined the Clarets from Karlsruher SC in the summer.

“I’m 28 and I think I know what I can do well and what I can do better.

“I know when I’m on the pitch what I have to do. Sometimes it’s a little bit unlucky and sometimes I have to do things a little bit differently than before.

“I’m confident that I can help the team with my skills.”

Hennings hopes his goal has relieved some pressure on him now, but stressed he was in no way prepared to rest on his laurels, with the Clarets now looking ahead to Saturday’s derby with Preston North End at Turf Moor.

“Maybe a little bit but when the next game comes it’s forgotten so I have to move on,” he said. “We have to move on. Everyone wants to win the next game.”

And Hennings believes that becoming increasingly accustomed to the Championship will be another benefit.

“We play very similar every week and training is similar to our matches,” said the striker. “I’ve been here for a few months and I’m getting used to it, but I think I can be better.”
