BURNLEY midfielder Joey Barton believes bombing the Middle East is not the answer after the Paris terror attacks earlier this month.

The French capital was hit by a series of terror attacks which targeted cafes, restaurants, a concert venue and the Stade de France.

Police stormed the Bataclan concert hall where hostages were being held, but attackers, wearing suicide belts, blew themselves up, leaving more than 80 dead.

Barton, who spent time playing in France with Marseille, said: “This is a great country.

“We’ve got to be very mindful of what we do going forward.

“I don’t think we should rush into a war again very hastily.

“We’ve already done that and I don’t think it helps.

“There’s almost fever pitch now for us to go and start bombing. My opinion is that isn’t the answer.

“The newspapers here have latched onto the fact that a refugee may have been on one of the boats who caused this.

“But what we’re forgetting is everyone else was EU nationals. The problem’s here. The problem isn’t going away if we just carpet bomb the Middle East.

“I’m so happy I’m not in London. A metropolis like that is probably on high alert at this moment in time and you don’t envy people being in that fearful position.

“Everybody’s in panic stations and I think we have to be very mindful of how we communicate that.

“Yes, there is probably a threat out there but does that mean that everybody’s capable of terrorist acts, I don’t think it is.
