DAN Agyei says signing for Burnley was ‘an ‘honour’ after the highly-rated youngster completed his move to Turf Moor from AFC Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old striker was linked with Chelsea, West Ham and Fulham, and had a trial with Crystal Palace earlier in the summer.

Agyei scored 35 goals last season for AFC Wimbledon’s under 21s and under 18s, and joined Burnley on a long-term contract after a trial period training with the club.

“I’m absolutely over the moon about the move,” he said.

“I like the way the club’s run, I believe I can really work well with the coaches here and I believe that this is where I can get into the first team and do well.

“I’ve learned the philosophy of the way the club play and I really enjoyed the training. It was an honour to sign here.”

Agyei has been given squad number 32 at Turf Moor and was named as a substitute for Burnley’s development squad in yesterday’s game at West Bromwich Albion, which saw Sam Vokes and Marvin Sordell both complete 90 minutes.

He believes Burnley is the next step in his career.

“I’d been at Wimbledon for four years, they helped me physically and mentally but I had to take another challenge,” he said.

“It’s really good to have a long-term contract which gives me a bit of time to try to break into the first team.

“I just want to kick on from now.”
