FORMER Claret Jamie Hoyland fears Danny Ings might not be the only player Burnley lose in the aftermath of relegation.

The ex-midfielder, who had almost four years at Turf Moor in the nineties, feels right back Kieran Trippier would be a target for top flight clubs.

And Hoyland feels that could affect Burnley’s ability to bounce straight back.

“Everybody says they can bounce back but it just depends what players they lose,” he said.

“Danny Ings seems a definite departure. A lot of people you talk to in the game think Kieran Trippier is certainly a Premier League player and has done himself no harm.

“Can they keep a lot of the team together? I don’t know if they will be able to.”

Manager Sean Dyche’s future is also a factor, with the 43-year-old’s reputation enhanced in the last 12 months.

“I think a lot will depend if the club are going to back him to get back up, because it’s going to be a hard call to do it twice with them, because last year was a special season. Will he be able to do it again?,” said Hoyland.

“I’m sure there will be quite a lot of suitors for him, Championship teams who have seen what he did with Burnley and wanting him to do that for their club.

“His stock is very high, even considering relegation.

“Are the club going to back him to recruit new players and encourage him to stay?”

Hoyland blames a poor recruitment strategy for Burnley’s inability to maintain their Premier League status.

“I think the recruitment side has been very poor,” he said.

“The signings made didn’t improve that they had from last season. It was much of a muchness.

“And not even taking players on loan in January to strengthen was a factor.

“If you’re down there and you haven’t got options to change it’s going to catch up with you, which it has.”

Hoyland, a former youth team coach at Preston North End, added that an emphasis must also be put on youth development.

“If they’re not going to make signings then players have to come from within, that’s the way it’s got to be at a club,” he said.

“It was always going to be hard to do that in a Premier League season but even last year there weren’t really any knocking on the door.”
