BURNLEY’S relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday despite victory at Hull City.

There were a number of crucial moments in the Clarets’ battle against the drop.

Here are six of them.

1. Crystal Palace 0 Burnley 0

THE Clarets had played well in their opening three games but had only one point to show for it when they travelled to Selhurst Park in early September.

Palace looked beatable under Neil Warnock and Burnley should have won it with five minutes left, only for Julian Speroni to save Scott Arfield’s penalty.

The game finished 0-0 and Burnley’s wait for a first win of the season went on until November.

2. QPR 2 Burnley 0

QPR currently sit bottom of the table and defeat at Loftus Road now looks very costly for the Clarets.

The west London side did have Harry Redknapp in charge at the time and won thanks to goals from Leroy Fer and Burnley old boy Charlie Austin, who was later sent off.

3. Tottenham 4 Burnley 2

IT perhaps seems strange to include an FA Cup match in Burnley’s path to relegation, but a third round replay loss at Tottenham turned the tide for the Clarets at a crucial moment.

Sean Dyche’s men had just beaten QPR – their fourth league victory in two months – when they led 2-0 at White Hart Lane.

But Tottenham came back to win 4-2, as Burnley developed an inability to hold on to a lead that would cost them dear in the matches to come.

4. Burnley 2 Crystal Palace 3

THE very next match after the Tottenham cup loss was against Crystal Palace in the snow at Turf Moor.

Burnley raced into an early 2-0 lead and would have moved up to 12th in the table with victory.

But new Palace boss Alan Pardew switched Wilfried Zaha to the right and the winger made a real difference as the visitors came from behind to win 3-2.

Palace never looked back, and Burnley did not win again for two months.

5. Burnley 2 West Brom 2

BURNLEY let a two-goal lead slip yet again – for the third time in four matches - when they hosted West Brom in early February.

Ashley Barnes and Danny Ings had put the Clarets in command.

But Chris Brunt pulled a goal back just before half time and Brown Ideye levelled in the second half for Tony Pulis’ men.

6. Burnley 0 Leicester 1

ULTIMATELY Burnley’s fate was decided by a 59-second spell at Turf Moor against Leicester City.

The Clarets had to beat Leicester to give themselves a chance of staying up and looked on course when they won a penalty, only for Matt Taylor to hit the post.

Within a minute Leicester had scored at the other end through Jamie Vardy, and results elsewhere left Burnley with an unscalable mountain to climb.
