THERE'S nothing like a royal visit to get people turning out and lining the streets for a chance to be part of the big occasion.

These flag-waving youngsters were waiting on Glasgow's Letherby Drive back in 1955, for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to pass on their way to Hampden.

Perhaps they had been waiting a while as they had been allowed to sit down in a neat row, and their faces were full of anticipation.

There's a fascinating glimpse of the fashions of the time, too, with their mums at the rear sporting the trend for heavy-duty handbags!
