SFA chief Gordon Smith today vowed to bring Brazil to Glasgow if the Tartan Army pack out Hampden for next month's visit of Argentina.

Luring the Samba stars to Scotland for a friendly match is something Smith has already looked into - even though they would command a fee of £1million.

But with interest soaring for the November 19 friendly against Argentina - who will have new coach Diego Maradona at the helm -Smith has pledged to go for the biggest nation in world football if the interest is there from the Scottish footballing public.

Smith said: "This Argentina game gives us a chance to test the water and see if there's an appetite for such fixtures.

"If the fans respond positively by turning out in large numbers to see Argentina, then my next step is to pull out the stops to try and get Brazil to Hampden.

"Argentina is a famous name in football and now with Maradona coming in as coach there is extra spice to the fixture.

"But Brazil is the number one country in world football because of what they have given the game.

"Scotland have had memorable matches against them in the past and to have them come to Hampden for the first time would be special.

"If the Scotland fans are willing to back the idea then I'll do all that I can to bring Brazil to Glasgow in the future.

"But there has to be the demand from the supporters. There's no point in doing it for the sake of it.

"I'll have a better indication of how the public feel about the idea once we see the overall response to the Argentina match."

Brazil, five-times World Cup winners, last played in Scotland back in 1987 when they beat Andy Roxburgh's side 2-0 in the Rous Cup.
