THANK God something is finally to be done to save the old Maryhill baths (Evening Times, September 7). But why has the community had to wait more than 20 years for some action to be taken?

Will we have to wait another 20 years before Maryhill Burgh Halls are brought back into use, or will they mysteriously 'go on fire' only to be replaced by fancy new flats? I won't be holding my breath! FIONA McARA Via e-mail Decline of Paisley

I grew up in Paisley and have watched the decline of my hometown. It started in the Thatcher years and hasn't stopped.

The birth of Braehead, which is home to hordes of shoppers, has hurt Paisley too. But the town has suffered from poor management by the Council. The Paisley Centre is poor. The Piazza is poor and the town's natural assets, like the river and the historic aspects of the old mills and the Abbey are underused.

I hope the plan for a £30million luxury hotel, flats and offices in the town centre (September 6) brings some life back to the place. NAME and address supplied All shopped out

Just how much more retail space can Glasgow's already saturated city centre accommodate? (New look for city centre mall, September 6).

We already have the St Enoch Centre, Buchanan Galleries, Princes Square, the Argyll Arcade, the Forge and the Savoy Centre, not to mention all the out of town malls.

Do we really need this many of shops, or is it just to keep up with the competition with London and other rival cities?

Surely the city would benefit from a better mix of leisure facilities. PEOPLE POWER Posted online Mobile phone launch

I SEE the council charged Motorola £600 so that it could block off Buchanan Street to launch its new phone (Evening Times, September 7).

That would be the same multi-national company that accepted millions of pounds in Government grants to build a new factory in Bathgate and then shut up shop leaving thousands on the dole.

I hope the council enjoys its 30 pieces of silver. FRANK Glasgow It's worth a shot

LOVED your picture (September 6) of Miss Scotland being chatted up by pensioner William Crerar.

Where else but in Glasgow would a wee man in a bunnet chance his arm with the country's best looking woman?

Top marks for trying William. MALCOLM HYSLOP Via e-mail Kelvingrove delight

I'VE just visited Kelvingrove Museum for the first time in 15 years. It's magnificent and the staff are great.

Well done Glasgow, you made this ex-pat very proud. MAUD WALKER Michigan WRITE: Evening Times, 200 Renfield Street, Glasgow G2 3QB. Please include your name and address. THERE were rapes and indecent assaults in the city long before we had lapdancing clubs and late night pubs.

Who or what was to blame for those attacks?

Over to you Kojak! BIG AL, Glasgow Do figures back up claim?

WHERE are Chief Inspector Connel's figures to back up his ludicrous claims?

How many of the 128 rapists caught last year blamed visiting a lapdancing club or the lack of late night public transport for their crimes?

He's talking rubbish. CABBIE, Glasgow Lapdancing not to blame

Take a look at the figures in the report: rapes down, detection rates up, serious sex attacks down.

Rape is one of the most serious crimes there is - using it to justify a spurious condemnation of lapdancing clubs is disgraceful. But of course, it's typical of the puritan, PC, parochial Glasgow mentality. BOBT51, posted online No respect for life

It's not only women who are victims of sexual assault - men are also victims regardless of sexual orientation.

Society as a whole needs to address the increase in all crimes, as far as I can see there is a complete lack of respect for human life ELA1, posted online Lapdancing exploits men

Why do we demean a horrific crime like rape by trying to relate the activities of monsters who, frankly, need no encouragement, with something like lapdancing?

The filth who commit these crimes would do what they do regardless.

The only people exploited at table dancing clubs are the men who leave with empty wallets. PAULLY V, East Kilbride Council want clubs closed

THIS is just another attempt by our self-appointed moral gaurdians to save us from ourselves. It's no more about cutting sex attacks than flying to the moon. It's all about the council's stated aim of closing down all the city's lapdancing clubs. DANCING GIRL, Glasgow Put top cop back on street

I DON'T understand, is the cop saying men rape women because they can't get a bus home?

If this is the type of mind in charge of policing Glasgow then it is no wonder that crime and disorder is escalating in the city.

Put him back on the beat. DOUGIE, posted online
