IS IT only me, or do others in Scotland get upset and angry about the non-coverage on our national television of the 3k, 10k and half marathon in Glasgow?

People pour their money, energy and community spirit into this major sporting event but each year it appears to go unnoticed by STV and BBC.

Sunday was a great day to show off Glasgow to the world, with many people along the route coming out to support the runners. A special big thank you should go to the Asian community on the South Side who cheered the runners on.

Shame on the people in control of our television stations. You are a disgrace. Name and address supplied Drug deaths go on

Another year of rising numbers of deaths from illegal drugs (Evening Times, August 31), and so it goes on. All Government policies to combat the drug menace have failed and will so continue.

Failure at every level, despite the disingenuous assertions of those who enjoy well-paid careers out of this misery, and blame everybody else for their shortcomings.

But can they be blamed, as the sanctions against the drug trade are farcical?

A few short years in jail, with 50% off if the culprits plead guilty, then open prison, weekend leave, and training for freedom. What is the point?

The death penalty should be introduced for drug dealers, with 99-year sentences for those associated with them, like peddlers and money launderers, with one-third off for good behaviour.

Or perhaps we should legalise the whole lot. It will probably cost more lives, but save billions of pound for the taxpayer. The additional lives will be lost anyway.

Just wait until next year's death figures. William Hayburn, East Kilbride Revenge on tenants?

THE resident presented with a refurbishment bill from the GHA for £14,000 has my sympathy.

Simple arithmetic indicates that £14,000 per flat for 30 flats equals a staggering total of £420,000! A gold-plated renovation indeed.

Perhaps this is the socialists' revenge on those former council tenants who had the temerity to buy their own homes. Jim Gordon, Hillhead Coos were a gem

Congratulations to your photographer Chris Clark for his picture (August 31) of the wee girl feeding the Highland coos at the Flowers of Scotland centre in Carluke.

It was a gem of an image and made a welcome contrast from stories outlining the exploits of Glasgow's ever-increasing band of morons. A M, via e-mail Closure chaos

THERE was traffic chaos in the West End on Saturday with the closure of the Expressway. More notice should have been given. Kelly Peters, Posted online WHAT DO YOU THINK? Email your views to us here. THEY will never be able to enforce these fines. People won't pay and the court system will then get choked up. Who wins? The neds, yet again. A swift boot up the backside would be more of a deterrent! O Pinion, Glasgow Who draws the line?

WE are nearing a stage where you can't be drunk in public without the fear of a fine - who decides what behaviour falls under this new law? Relieving oneself in the street or starting a fight is one thing and should be punished, but "drunk and incapable"? Incapable of what? Operating heavy machinery? Reciting all of Shakespeare's plays in alphabetical order? Where will the line be drawn? Voice of Reason, posted online It's just a joke

CAN'T wait to see the police trying to enforce this. What a joke! Wee Malky, posted online We all suffer

THIS is just the usual yakity-yak that never comes to anything!

I know some people who would need to mooch another £120 a week just to keep up with the fines alone. And they're not the sort who would pay a fine anyway.

The jails are full, so what's next? And why should we all have to suffer? We have to think twice before doing anything these days, from telling a joke, to lighting a fag.

Come back, Oliver Cromwell, all is forgiven! Brian, Garngad Culture change needed

YET another form of indirect taxation by our unimaginative and out-of-touch council.

When are they going to see that it won't matter what the charges are, £40, or £400?

Until we introduce a culture change, and see a shift in attitudes to binge drinking, nothing will ever change. Posted online Police must take action

THERE is a real need for the police to enforce the existing laws. There is far too much casual anti-social behaviour, thuggery and drunken idiocy on the streets.

It's a vicious circle - to survive in some (perhaps now most) areas, people have to be ready to defend themselves. It's an affront to a decent society.

The courts should be open in the evenings and weekends and the police should be punishing this culture of abuse. Cochrane, Posted online
