It is no wonder that Alex Salmond wants to change the way that the BBC is run. Take that programme "Mountain" so obviously geared toward the English market. So patronising. Rees Jones' history is so biased and almost sneering towards the Scots. The impression was given that the folk in Sutherland live in a permanent snowstorm. A programme such as this with the mountains as the stars could be so spectacular without the "bool in the mooth" accent. It calls out for someone of the calibre of one of our own Scots outdoor people who would have done a much better job of the whole thing. Giving the mountains the respect they deserve. Compare this to the excellent programme on Thomas Telford which was shown a few days previously with the good Scottish accent in commentary and you can see the difference. Radio Scotland does a pretty good job but I would like to hear more of the Scots language. We hear plenty Scottish accents but few Scots words apart from the weather forecaster's dreich or scunner usually qualified by "isn't that a good word!" just to compound the fact that it is unusual to hear such words. I see that once again there is to be look at how the profile of the Gaelic can be raised. well, I would like to see a strategy (isn't that a guid word) for raising the profile of the Scots Language that would really be something for Alex Salmond to get his teeth into after all he represents a corner of the country which already is bi-lingual especially among the fisher folk. As for the news - Scotland is rarely mentioned unless it is something which denigrates the place or the people. Sport - Scottish teams do not get a mention unless it is the Old Firm and then only if there is some sectarian trouble to report almost gleefully. It is amazing how a Scottish star such as Andy Murray becomes British while the English stars remain English even while representing the UK. Good on you Alex, I am behind you all the way.
