GEORGE Boyd has backed his Burnley team-mate Danny Ings to ‘put on a show’ at Anfield tonight.

The 22-year-old was the subject of a failed bid from Liverpool in the January transfer window and the Reds remain keen on signing Ings when his Burnley contract expires in the summer.

The England Under-21 international is the Clarets’ top scorer this season with nine Premier League goals, and Boyd doesn’t think the interest from Liverpool will affect his performance tonight.

“Danny’s gone about his business no different from one game to the next, he’ll want to go there and put on a show as he did at Chelsea and Manchester United.

“He’ll go there and play his own game,” he said.

Since the transfer window opened and the speculation over Ings future ratcheted up a notch the striker has produced his best run of form all season.

After scoring in the 3-3 draw at Newcastle on New Year’s Day Ings has netted five goals in eight Premier League outings.

That includes a diving header he scored to bring Burnley level at Old Trafford last month, and Boyd believes he will be keen to find the back of the net at Anfield as well.

“He’s got stronger since the speculation started, and can’t harm his career if he does well,” he said.

“He scored at Old Trafford, and I’m sure he’d like to add Anfield to his record book.”
