MICHAEL Keane is looking forward to an ‘exciting’ final 12 games of the Premier League campaign as he bids to help keep Burnley in the top flight.

The 22-year-old has started the last 14 games since taking his chance when Michael Duff picked up an injury in the win at Stoke.

The former Manchester United youngsters admits the battle to avoid the drop is something the Clarets squad is embracing.

“It’s really exciting, results like Saturday spur the players on and make us want more, we’ve got to keep ploughing on like we’re doing,” he said. “You go into the changing room (after Chelsea) thinking that could be massive come the end of the season, and obviously everyone is buzzing with the result.

“We can’t get too carried away though, we’ve got games coming thick and fast now, and we need some more points.”

Keane has been part of a back four that had conceded four goals from corners in the two games before the visit to Stamford Bridge, but was happy to see them come through an aerial examination there unscathed.

“We were quite solid from set-plays, which was pleasing because we had done some work on it,” he said.

“The last few weeks we’ve conceded some goals that way and Chelsea are a massive team with some big players, so that was pleasing.”

Keane has also backed his fellow defender Ben Mee to keep getting among the goals. Mee has scored twice in his last five games, having scored once in his first 80.

“We always fancy him,” said Keane. “He’s great in the air, he wins every header that comes his way, so I think we might find a few teams paying him a bit more attention now.”
