THE sooner we can get Sam Vokes back in the team the better things will look for Burnley.

Tomorrow’s game with Southampton looks to be a week or two too soon but he has played three or four games for the reserves now and hopefully he is not too far away.

The reason I say we need him back is because Danny Ings aside we don’t look like we are going to score enough goals.

Danny is a proven striker and will always score but I think he needs Sam by his side. Those two are a fantastic combination and that was proved last season.

I think Burnley have been right not to rush Sam back because it was a really nasty injury and he has to be 100 per cent ready to return. He must know in his own mind that he is able to come and play in the rough and tumble of the Premier League otherwise he won’t be as effective as he was.

I am sure he will be right for his comeback though and I have no doubts that he is a Premier League player.

Him and Danny can be a force to be reckoned with and hopefully they will score enough to keep us in the league.

Looking at tomorrow’s game it is going to be a tough test for us but I think we can get something out of the game.

I watched Southampton play Manchester United on Monday night and they looked an excellent side who were young and fit and played the ball around nicely.

I was impressed by them and they moved possessio0n around very quickly. That will be something Burnley will have to combat. I think Sean Dyche will want his side to close players down quickly and defend a little bit higher up the pitch.

Burnley are a good, organised team and they should be up for the fight at home and hopefully the result will go the right way. A win tomorrow would really set them up ahead of a tricky run of fixtures.
