Bank Holiday Monday brings us seven meetings from the UK, as well as a further card from Downpatrick, with the best card of the day at Epsom and Ryan Moore fancied to land the spoils in the feature Condition Stakes over ten furlongs on Godolphin’s Haafaguinea (3.45).

The colt rounded off last season winning a valuable Newbury handicap for Clive Cox and followed that up by two excellent seconds over the winter for Saeed Bin Suroor. The 4-y-o is having his first start since January however has ran well fresh previously, winning first time out for the last two seasons.

Moore won the corresponding race last year with Fattsota turning over Godolphin’s odd-on favourite Thair and David O’Meara’s son of Oasis Dream is respected having won a warm Newmarket handicap last time out, Paul Hanagan rides.

Paul Midgeley’s hat-trick seeking Silvanus is respected in the dash over the minimum trip but with the 9-y-o up 12lb for those efforts preference lay with Long Awaited (3.10) for David Barron and Ryan Moore an eye-catching jockey booking in the plate.

The course and distance winner looked to rediscover his love for the game when second in a competitive encounter nine days ago at Doncaster and won the race two seasons back from just a 3lb higher mark.

Jonathan Portman’s Pasaka Boy (4.55) is another with form around the track having won the ten furlong handicap on Derby Day two seasons ago and looks potentially well-handicapped from a pound below his last winning mark in the penultimate race on the card.

Ned Curtis takes off a useful 5lb and with cheek-pieces on for the first time, he looks well treated to return to winning ways after consistent efforts at Newbury and Newmarket on his last two starts in higher company.

Richard Fahey celebrated a treble on the card up at Newcastle on the corresponding fixture last term and Intiwin (2.15) looks the best of his three runners in the second division of the 7f maiden. Apprentice George Challoner is good value for his 3lb and this well-bred son of Intikhab has the pick of the form after an excellent second last month at York. Having been placed on all four career starts, it should be fifth time lucky shedding the maiden tag.

Ripon’s Two Year Old Trophy went to Fahey last year with subsequent Mill Reef scorer Supplicant and whilst his Izzthatright is respected, a chance is taken on Karl Burke’s filly Explosive Lady (4.10) under Ben Curtis.

The daughter of Alfred Noble showed an impressive turn of foot to win well on debut at Musselburgh and followed that by running a blinder to finish third in the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes on King George Day at Ascot. The filly appears the most progressive horse in the field and can make full use of her 5lb allowance to beat the boys.

A fine bit of placement from in-form trainer William Haggas sees Fury (5.05) bound for South Wales for Chepstow’s feature mile handicap and should take all the beating from a tumbling mark of 91.

The 6-y-o is down to a career low mark despite consistent efforts this term and with cheek-pieces thrown on for the first time, he looks sure to go close. Seb Sanders rides for the first time bidding to continue his excellent record when riding for Haggas this year; 14 winners at a 35% strike-rate.

Warwick hosts one of its final ever flat cards this afternoon and Richard Hannon’s Ninjago (3.40) can land a nice pot in the conditions stakes after six furlongs.

Sean Levey rides the colt after his excellent second to Intrinsic in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood and looks the best horse in the race, seeking to get his head in front for the first time in 15 months.

There’s jump racing from Huntingdon and Cartmel with the latter expecting a bumper Bank Holiday crowd and Mawaqeet (2.20) fancied to build on last month’s Perth success in the opening Sticky Toffee Pudding Novices’ Hurdle.

The 5-y-o was rated 93 on the flat at his peak last summer when trained by Sir Michael Stoute and came good at the third time of asking when stepped up in trip, winning well under Noel Fehily. Hopefully his success will prove just as tasty and satisfying as the desert in the race title!
