HITMEN Danny Ings and Jordan Rhodes will go head to head for one of the big prizes at the 2014 Northwest Football Awards.

Blackburn Rovers striker Rhodes and Burnley forward Ings have been nominated for the Championship player of the year award.

Rhodes notched 25 goals in 46 appearances as Rovers came within two points off the play-offs in 2013-14.

Ings, meanwhile, netted 21 times in 40 league games as the Clarets claimed promotion to the Premier League.

Rivaling the prolific frontmen for the prize will be Blackpool’s David Perkins, Bolton Wanderers’ Tim Ream and Wigan Athletic’s James McArthur.

Rovers’ reigning player of the year Tom Cairney has been nominated for the rising star award alongside Everton’s England international Ross Barkley.

Burnley’s Steven Hewitt has also been nominated in the category, along with Altrincham’s Scott Leather, Blackpool’s Tom Barkhuizen, Bolton’s Andy Kellett, Bury’s Anthony Dudley, Carlisle United’s Patrick Brough, Crewe Alexandra’s Ben Garratt, Hyde’s Adam Blakeman, Liverpool’s Jordan Rossiter, Manchester City’s Marco Lopes, Manchester United’s James Wilson, Morecambe’s Aaron McGowan, Oldham Athletic’s Jonson Clarke-Harris, Preston North End’s Josh Brownhill, Rochdale’s Jamie Allen, Tranmere Rovers’ Max Power, and Wigan Athletic’s Martyn Waghorn.

Both the Championship player of the year and rising star awards are voted by supporters.
