BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche is remaining coy on new arrivals at Turf Moor ahead of the Premier League opener with Chelsea.

The Clarets chief has been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury and has seen three bids turned down by West Brom for defender Craig Dawson.

Burnley have so far brought in strikers Marvin Sordell and Lukas Jutkiewicz, midfielder Matt Taylor, goalkeeper Matt Gilks and winger Michael Kightly – who spent time on loan at Turf Moor last season.

And Dyche, well admitting he was keen to bring in more players for the top-flight return, refused to put a number on his wanted list.

He said: “We are in the market, we are still active and we certainly need more than we have got because we want that demand from the squad.

“It’s not about necessarily replacing, it’s about demand, it’s about challenge and it’s about keeping the group hungry and knowing that they haven’t got a guaranteed shirt.

“The players were fantastically well motivated last year some knowing they more or less had a guaranteed shirt but we want to change that dynamic, we want to make sure that they are aware that its challenge from everywhere now.

“There are a couple of situations we have been active with for a long time and they just take time, it’s as simple as that.

“It’s documented that unless you are going to throw massive money at things you just have to keep working at the deal and getting to a place where everyone is happy which is what we are trying to do.”

When asked specifically about speculation linking the Clarets with Lansbury, who Forest boss Stuart Pearce said Burnley were keen on, Dyche said: “He is one of 64 I counted the other day over the summer. I think it started about an hour after we got promoted.”

The Clarets boss also allayed fears that star striker Danny Ings was facing a long lay off. The 2—year-old missed the 2-2 friendly draw with Celta Vigo with a thigh problem but could feature against Italian top-flight side Hellas Verona in the final pre-season game on Saturday.

“He got a couple of bumps and has got a minor thigh problem and it hasn’t gone,” said Dyche of Ings.

“We were really careful and it was my decision and I decided to pull him and said ‘no make sure.’ “We haven’t got a massive squad and it’s really important, we have had a couple of niggles early in pre-season, and they have gone away.”

In Ings’ absence Lukas Jutkiewicz led the line and scored twice, taking his pre-season tally to five in five games and Dyche admitted he was pleased with what he was seeing from his new striker.

“His first was excellent,” said Dyche. “He has worked the keeper on another one, should have had a penalty and I think he was very good again.

“We know he has got power we know he has strength but it is nice to see those goals going in.”
