Burnley sign Lukas Jutkiewicz from Middlesbrough

This Is Lancashire: Lukas Jutkiewicz Lukas Jutkiewicz

BURNLEY Football Club have announced the signing of former Middlesbrough forward Lukas Jutkiewicz for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old, who has signed a three-year deal at Turf Moor, ended the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Bolton Wanderers and scored seven goals in 20 games during his time at the Reebok Stadium.

Southampton-born Jutkiewicz began his career with his hometown club’s academy before signing for Swindon Town in 2006.

At the County Ground he made his debut at the age of 17 as a substitute against Swansea City and went on to contribute five goals as the club secured promotion to League One.

In 2007, David Moyes took Jutkiewicz to Everton for an undisclosed fee and he was loaned out to Plymouth Argyle to gain first-team experience.

Further loan spells at Huddersfield and Scottish Premier League side Motherwell followed before he was transferred to Coventry City in 2010.

Jutkiewicz contributed 18 league goals in 67 appearances for The Sky Blues during a two-year spell in the Midlands.

He then made a permanent move to Middlesbrough, after an initial emergency loan, in 2012 and made a blistering start to his time on Teeside.

Despite an injury setback at the start of the 2012-13 season, ‘The Juke’ scored four goals in three starts before adding a further six to finish the campaign on 10 goals.

And after starting the 2013-14 campaign at Boro, he joined Bolton Wanderers on loan in January and completed the season there.

Jutkiewicz becomes the second frontman to join Turf Moor this summer following on from the addition of Marvin Sordell.

And Clarets boss Sean Dyche is pleased with how his front-line is shaping up ahead of the new campaign.

He said: “We’re looking forward to getting him into the group and making him feel welcome here.

“I still think there is development in Lukas, he’s 25 and has been around a little bit now and he finished last season very strongly.

“I feel there is even more to come and he’ll be hungry for that. He’ll be working with a good group who are all hungry to not only achieve things but to keep pushing themselves as individuals.

“That’s a big part of our mentality and he’ll fit into that very nicely.

“He’s a physical presence who can hold the ball up very well and link play. We think there is goals in him and it is very similar to the Sam Vokes story where he’s always done well and we’re looking for him to build on what he’s done.

“There is a nice demand now in that area of the pitch as all the players offer something different to the team so we’re happy with how that is developing.”

Jutkiewicz will now join up with his Clarets teammates for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

As a Burnley fan you'd have to disagree with the statement you make as a Rovers fan. As a Burnley fan, you'd never say he's worked his way down coming to us. As a Blackburn fan you would. Can we assume today is a Rovers' day for you? Or is it all predicated on the availability of a nice horse?

As a Burnley fan you'd have to disagree with the statement you make as a Rovers fan. As a Burnley fan, you'd never say he's worked his way down coming to us. As a Blackburn fan you would. Can we assume today is a Rovers' day for you? Or is it all predicated on the availability of a nice horse?
West ham sign a striker for 16 million, Hull spend 27 million to come fifth from bottom, if this bargain bucket signing is doing it for you then all well and good, I'm just saying that we are signing nomarks, they haven't offered you a squad number have they Bob? Torres

Just seems a bit surreal that Chelsea can buy one player worth 6 million more than our entire club.

Absolutely spot on the lack of depth last season will never take away the brilliant performance of Vokes, Ings and Barnes but this is about additional cover and the price tag is great value. Dyche isn't going to pay 12 mil for an untried one-dimensional Rhodes type front man whose touch would look like a park footballer in the PL.

Not too much said about your new signing here, but plenty of comment about Blackburn on a Burnley post.
A fair signing I would say. Can he cut it in prem? Only time will tell, but will be interesting.
If anyone thinks the championship is tough, well here's news. The prem is tougher, faster and the players fitter.
As a Blackburn fan I used to tick off the should win games as probably a lot of Burnley fans are doing. It's just when the likes of West Brom visit and leave with a 0-1 win and it's the likes of Man City away next game.
Yes in the prem I think Burnley will cause an upset or two, but is there enough to stay up?
Remember, Every team that is ticked as beatable, will be looking at Burnley in the same light.
Not easy, but good luck.

A sensible comment at last.

I think most of us are aware that our season won't be defined by games against Chelsea and Man Utd etc - it is the West Broms and Hulls and Palaces of the world that we have to be beating, and I think that with the work rate and quality that we have we will do enough not to be one of the worst three teams in the league.

We are a completely different animal to the team that went up under Coyle in 2009, even that year we conceded 61 goals in the league so it was no surprise that we conceded goals for fun in the top flight. We conceded just 35 goals last seasons and built everything from the back with a high tempo pressing game a la Athletico Madrid, don't give players time on the ball, and break quickly with two lethal strikers up front.

We may get battered off Chelsea, then again we may not, but even if we end up getting beat our players will learn a lot from the experience - I think we will be fine.

Ala Athletico Burnley. Somehow the comparison doesn't quite sound right.
Sorry.......

With our pressing style played using a brace of players running off to either a "tandem" position, or a "harness" position, passing to the lead foot of a team colleague wherever possible and utilising the supreme fitness of one of the fittest squads in British football, we are more Dortmund actually.
