CO-CHAIRMAN Mike Garlick insists that Burnley will not overpay for players in a rush to get deals done before the start of pre-season.

The Clarets are making concerted attempts to strengthen their squad following promotion to the Premier League but are taking a patient approach in the transfer market.

They are yet to agree a fee with West Bromwich Albion for centre back target Craig Dawson and Garlick has stressed that Burnley will work within their budget.

“We have target players, but we also have a target budget and we intend to stick to it,” said Garlick, who has flown out to watch England at the World Cup today.

“The feelers have been put out for targets and we are working hard to bring players in.

“Some things might come off and some things might not.

“A lot of people are away at the moment so it might be the end of the month when things start to come to fruition.

“It might be that not everyone is here for day one, and by day one I mean pre-season rather than the first game of the season. We are looking to invest in the right players, but we will stick to our budget.

“You can throw money at it and even then there are no guarantees of staying up.”

Burnley remain in talks with Danny Ings as they attempt to tie the striker to an extended contract.

Ings has only a year left on his current deal and Southampton are monitoring whether to make a move for the 21-year-old once their new manager is appointed.

But Garlick confirmed that Burnley have received no enquiries for the striker at this stage – from the Saints or anyone else.

“We’ve had no enquiries for him,” he said.

“Danny is a big part of our plans as far as we’re concerned we’re looking forward to him coming back for pre-season.

“That’s all we’re focused on.

“There will be speculation about him and other players, we know that.

“But we’re looking forward to him having a big part to play with us again next season.”
