KIERAN Trippier hopes playing Premier League football with Burnley will influence his international ambitions.

The right back last week gave a boost to Clarets fans by penning a new three-year deal, after playing a big part in the promotion push.

As well as a runners-up medal, Trippier celebrated the end of the season with recognition from his peers, earning his place in the PFA Championship team of the year.

Now he is looking to take the next step in his career. And although his priority is to help Burnley progress in the top flight, another aim is to add to his England Under 21 caps with full international honours.

“I want us to do well and stay in the Premier League. I want to be a Premier League player and stay there as long as I can.

“That means doing well next year and the year after and hopefully even catch the England manager’s eye,” said the 23-year-old.

“It’s every player’s dream to play for England one day and hopefully I can start the new season brightly and perhaps get the nod.

“There’s a lot of competition there, but this is my first season in the Premier League and hopefully I can show everyone that I can handle it and do well for the club.

“We all hope it’s going to be a successful season. That’s what everybody wants for the club and I can’t wait for the fixtures to come out and be playing against the best players and best teams in the world. That’s a great feeling for me personally and great for Burnley.”

A product of Manchester City’s youth team, Trippier left the Etihad at the age of 20 after finding first team opportunities hard to come by.

He was first signed by Eddie Howe on loan initially in the pre-season of 2011, but the move was made permanent the following January.

Trippier was about to head into the last year of that three-and-a-half year contract, but said he was delighted to extend his time at Turf Moor, and revealed manager Sean Dyche was a big factor in his decision to commit to the club.

“I always wanted to stay,” he said.

“I spoke to my family and I have all my mates here, but most importantly the staff, who have done a lot for me in the last 18 months, so they are a big reason, along with working under a manager who has had a big impact on my career since he has been here. He’s the main reason why I’m staying.

“I’m delighted and I’m happy to put pen to paper and look forward to the Premier League.

“I’m excited to get to pre-season now, kick-on with the boys and regroup and hopefully do well in the Premier League.”

Meanwhile, long-serving defender Michael Duff remains in talks over his offer of a new one-year contract.
