Burnley set for cash boost if Jay Rod joins Spurs

BURNLEY would be set for a cash windfall should Jay Rodriguez be sold by Southampton.

The England international has been tipped for a move to Tottenham Hotspur, following in the footsteps of manager Mauricio Pochettino from St Mary’s after he was announced as Tim Sherwood’s successor at White Hart Lane.

The Argentine is a huge admirer of homegrown ex-Claret Rodriguez, who has excelled under his leadership since a record £7million move from Turf Moor two years ago.

As part of the deal that took the former Barrowford Celtic youngster to the south coast a sell-on clause was agreed.

And newly promoted Burnley would stand to benefit from 20 per cent of any profit made on a future sale.

That move could happen as early as this summer, despite Rodriguez recovering from the ruptured cruciate knee ligament which cruelly cut short his season and shattered his World Cup dream.

The 24-year-old is not expected to return to action until October at the earliest, after a predicted six-month lay-off following the injury he sustained away to Manchester City in April.

But Pochettino’s relationship with the striker, and encouraging signs for Rodriguez’s rehabilitation, could mean that Spurs opt against waiting for the January transfer window and act before he returns to full fitness, with Southampton expected to put a minimum £15million price tag on his head as they are not under pressure to sell.

Rodriguez, a product of Burnley’s youth development, earned his Premier League move at the end of the 2011/12 season in which he finished top scorer at Turf Moor, with 21 goals in league and cup.

He just missed out on double figures in his first Premier League season, but after being in and out of the starting line-up under Nigel Adkins, the appointment of Pochettino at St Mary’s had an instant impact on his game.

He was a regular in the former Espanyol manager’s line-ups for the remainder of the season, but despite scoring three goals in as many games – in wins over Liverpool, Chelsea and Reading – just missed out on double figures.

Rodriguez scored 17 last season, 15 of them in the Premier League making him the second highest scoring Englishman in the top flight behind Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge, and in contention for a place in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad before injury.

It's becoming a regular thing isn't it Mungo. You try your best to pick holes in the Clarets but they just keep on making you look silly.

Day in, day out, you are shown up as a complete fool.

Why not just accept that Blackburn Rovers are now finished as a club and headed for a future of uncertainty in the lower divisions, while the Clarets look forward to a bright future as a worthy member of the elite.

Back in your box now, there's a good retard. TurfMoorTom wants another reach-around.

A bright future:

1. With a substandard squad which will not be able to compete in the Prem
2. Relunctance to invest
3. Inability to even change the dug-out seats
4. Immediately able to demand more money from the few fans there are
5. Insufficient fans to found a long term viability in the top flght

Very bright future, for a blinkered t0sspot.

So you judge him on a 60 minute friendly, when he was played out of position against a quality full back?? That seems fair.

He was the second highest English goalscorer in the PL last season behind Sturridge, and those goals included some absolute belters - he was an absolute shoe-in for Roy's squad had he not been injured.

£20 million is a steal.

Very bright future, for a blinkered t0sspot.
You've just repeated one of your posts from the beginning of last season, and look how that ended up. You need to forget the wish list Mungo because the more you hope and pray for our downfall, the more successful we seem to be.

A bright future:

1. With a substandard squad which will not be able to compete in the Prem - A squad who blew away the Championship having lost only 5 games out of 46, and widely regarded as the best footballing side in the division under the guidance of the best young English manager for a generation.

2. Relunctance to invest - Sensible planning for the future. We are now debt-free and financially secure for many, many years to come, while you clowns are £60million+ in debt, losing £3million a month, and about to take a walloping off FFP.

3. Inability to even change the dug-out seats - seats are irrelevant, we're in the PREMIER LEAGUE. Perhaps you continue to refer to seating materials due to a sore bottom?

4. Immediately able to demand more money from the few fans there are - I personally find this a very attractive proposal and given that I buy my ticket early I'll get £100 off next season. £250 to watch such a high standard of football is the best value you'll see anywhere.

5. Insufficient fans to found a long term viability in the top flight - Swansea City 20406, Hull City 24116, Crystal Palace 24118. All three teams are of a similar standing to Burnley and have retained their Premier League status.

So once again Mungo you look like a MUG.

We have a very bright future, that's why you continue to plead otherwise. You know we are going places and your own team are finished. Get over it.

With the appointment of of Ms Leibherr, the removal of £70m of loans, 102% of turnover wage bill and FFP, the Saints are indeed a shoestring club at the moment.

Rodrigues and Lallana off to for £40m, all to taken back by the club.

Yep. I agree. A southern based manager happy to work on shoe-string is the order of the day for them. I'm so glad we have an East Midlands based manager who has dosh to spend and patience aplenty.

He doesn't need to sign you bellsmash, he's still under contract.
If the question you are trying to ask, but are too bstd to know how to word it, is; Has Danny signed an extension to his current contract with improved terms? then the answer is there has been no public announcement to that effect.
The lad has just finished the season before going on to play for England, again. He should be on holiday getting some much deserved r&r. Few Burnley fans expect Danny to sign anything yet and would be surprised were an announcement made soon.
You are premature in trying to use Danny signing an extension to stir any sort of anxiety here, we are still in may you shaft.

Good old Venkys I understand from Pune they have no intention of paying off your tin pot clubs debts. If they had they would have done by now. Sunk without trace this time next year. They still think the nets are what bowlers pratise in.
No wonder Gestede and Rhodes want to sign for the bigger, better, more prestigious Premier League club BURNLEY. I am sure Jay would love to come back home.

Sticky Fingers is a mug. He is the lowest form of life and pretty low in Blackburn I love the Venky’s more each day that debt increases. Because they ain’t going to pay it off. No sir.

All three teams are of a similar standing to Burnley and have retained their Premier League status. So once again Mungo you look like a MUG. We have a very bright future, that's why you continue to plead otherwise. You know we are going places and your own team are finished.

A group of grubby little ne'er-do-wells. What a waste of space you are. The fruit of Blackburn's loins. The peak of the extended family that passes the kids around every week at Tee Hee Hee Wood. Paying a fiver for a season ticket to watch utter cra.p. Itching for that next fix of a cash injection from someone wealthy. "Please please inject us soon" shout the junkies. The Great Entitled. The arrogance born of buying everything you have ever won and shouting loudly how bloody marvellous you are. As soon as you face life on a budget you squeal like a bunch of stuck pigs.

Well trolls, this is it. Your reality check. You are yesterday's story. Check the book in at the library. Remember, Burnley was a weaving town. They added value. Spinners, 10 a penny. It was ever thus. Thirty years from now you'll all be playing cricket. The demographic is coming to get you. Bye!
