DANNY Lafferty has been offered a new three-year deal to stay at Turf Moor.

The Northern Ireland international has not made a first team appearance since January but Burnley boss Sean Dyche sees the left back as part of his squad plans as he prepares for the Premier League.

The 26-year-old was signed on a two-and-a-half year deal from Derry City in January 2012, making his debut in a goalless draw at Cardiff City the following March, but has largely been understudy to Ben Mee.

Lafferty started Burnley’s promotion season following a pre-season injury to Mee. But the form of his fit-again left back rival meant Lafferty was restricted to 16 appearances and 10 starts.

Although he was a regular in the 18-man matchday squad, his last appearance for the Clarets was in the 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the Derry-born defender remains part of Dyche’s plans going forward following promotion, reflected in the length of deal on the table.

New contracts have also been offered to winger Junior Stanislas, long-serving defender Michael Duff and young right back Luke O’Neill but it is thought Lafferty’s terms are the longest.

Lafferty remains under his existing contract and is likely to put pen to paper on the new terms later in the summer following holiday and international duty.

The full back has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Chile.
