LEICESTER City were one of the favourites to win the Championship, so it came as no surprise when they did.

What did shock me was Sean Dyche leaving the LMA dinner empty handed, because Burnley were undoubtedly the surprise package of the division.

He worked miracles with the budget and resources he had, certainly in comparison not with just Leicester but most teams in the top half, and despite the restrictions delivered the best team performance.

And for that reason, Burnley’s promotion as runners up outweighs any other achievement in the division.

It’s a shame that Sean missed out, but I’m sure he would have preferred to finish second and win promotion than finish third and win manager of the year.

Maybe next year will be his year. For if Burnley retain their Premier League status – whatever position from 17th upwards they finish in – that would be an even greater effort.

He is facing his busiest, and arguably most testing, summer now in order to give his team a chance.

Staying in the Premier League will be just as tough as getting out of the Championship into it.

If anything his job has got more difficult because no-one was expecting Burnley to go up at the start of the season.

Now he is in the Premier League, everyone will be hoping he can do what Owen Coyle didn’t at Burnley and keep them there.

In terms of signings, I’d be looking to strengthen in all areas – defensively, midfield, up front, and probably another goalkeeper also to put the pressure on Tom Heaton (left), as fantastic as he’s been this season he’ll need to be kept on his toes.

As good as we were last season in the Championship and the way the players performed, I think in terms of quality we certainly need to add to go up a level. That’s not being disrespectful to the lads who got us there, but the Premier League is a different animal.

The euphoria of early wins against Manchester United and Everton last time counted for nothing at the end of it when we were relegated.

We have to consistently make Turf Moor not a very nice place for the opposition to visit.

Away from home we don’t need to be pleasing on the eye. If we have to be boring and tight and take whatever points come along then so be it.
