FULL-TIME: Burnley 1, Ipswich 0

First published in Sport

MICHAEL Kightly's third goal in three games was enough for promotion-winning Burnley to sign off their 2013/14 home campaign in style, surpassing the 90-point mark for the first time in the club's history.

The Clarets, who secured a place in the Premier League with Easter Monday's 2-0 win over Wigan, have clocked up 92 points this season, with 51 of them earned at Turf Moor.

The winger contributed to that tally when he struck in the 54th minute, after Danny Ings had been denied by goalkeeper Dean Gerken.

The result denied Ipswich Town the chance of a play-off place, after Brighton's win which relegated Yeovil last night opened up a four-point gap between Ipswich and sixth spot.

But there was little in the way of fighting spirit from Mick McCarthy's side, as the Clarets for the most part strolled comfortably through their last game at Turf Moor this term.

Scott Arfield had an early effort deflected and Danny Ings was unlucky to fire into the side netting, while it needed a goalline headed clearance from Kieran Trippier to deny a Tommy Smith header in a goalless first half.

Kightly got the breakthrough less than 10 minutes into the second half. Ings had his shot saved after combining with Ashley Barnes and the winger slotted in the rebound.

Ings rattled the crossbar soon after as Burnley searched for a second.

Tom Heaton saved superbly to deny Paul Taylor's free kick that was destined for the top left corner, and from there the Clarets saw the win out comfortably.

From today's performance, you can be sure the Clarets will give it 100% as they have done in the vast majority of games throughout the season.

I genuinely hope Blackburn can make it to the playoffs and come up. What a season the next would be!

Not quite sure but I saw a group of lads in Burnley shirts queuing up outside your mam's house this morning, they all had a fiver in their hands, not sure what was going on inside but one by one they came out smiling and rejoined the queue. Perhaps that explains it?

Just listened to Sean Dyche interview on Lancs. what a true professional gent. It makes a refreshing change for a manager to understand a teams effort still matters to other teams, even when they have nothing to play for. I really believe Burnley will go into the last game wanting to win.
Well done to BFC this season. Keep your manager and you will stay in the prem. Hope we can join you. If not next, then season after.

Over 90 points! Another record goes tumbling in a record breaking season. I honestly don't fear next season at all. Of course we'd be delighted with 17th place but how difficult can it beat to beat the likes of West Ham, Stoke, etc. There are some very poor teams in the prem really. The bottom half is not that much better than the championship. As I heard someone say on the radio recently, concentrate your efforts on the winnable games and let the "glamour"games take care of themselves.
As far as Rovers play-off hopes, it would be nice to be playing them next seaon but has anybody really looked at the table? The goal difference is almost insurmountable. If we beat Reading 1-0 Rovers would have to win by 6 to catch them. It would still require a good win against Wigan to topple them and then there is Brighton. If they get a draw at Forest Rovers would have to win by 7 (I think). Then there is Wigan's game in hand. Whatever happens Rovers require a big win against a very good Wigan side and hope that Reading and Brighton don't pick up points. Brighton play Forest who have basically given up the ghost in the last dozen games or so.
On the brighter side for Rovers, on the basis of the last 10/11 games you do have hope for next season.
