Andy Lochhead: Fantastic promotion such a joy to witness
IT was a late night partying at Turf Moor in Monday, and a privilege to be part of the promotion celebrations in the Chairmen’s Lounge at the club.
Naturally it was a fantastic atmosphere among the board members, their families, guests and club staff.
It isn’t often you get nights like that at Burnley, or full houses, but hopefully there will be plenty more of those next season as Premier League football comes back to Turf Moor.
I must admit, I didn’t think it would be possible again – certainly not so soon after the last time. But the team thoroughly deserve this success for an outstanding season.
The biggest credit must go to manager Sean Dyche. He has got everybody together, pulling in the right direction and makes the players into a unit.
He is going to have a busy summer and not much of a holiday, but I’m sure he would not have it any other way.
It is going to be hard to stay up, but now we’ve done it, we’ve got to make the most of it. And I think we will be more organised this time around.
We’ve got the nucleus of a decent team that with a few quality additions, which I would back the manager to find – even on a smaller budget than the other teams, I think we can be competitive.
But for now let’s enjoy the moment.
After all the if and but scenarios I’m glad that we got to secure promotion in style.
The first goal was a belter, but at the time I didn’t think one would be enough because Wigan are a good side.
But we overcame them and Michael Kightly fired in the second.
The winger has come good at the right time with his winning goal at Blackpool on Good Friday.
It was magnificent to see the home ends packed and bouncing.
We’ve got two games left now. The title is no longer possible – congratulations to my old club Leicester City for claiming that – but our remaining opponents can both be involved in the play-off shake-up.
That means we have duty to put in honest performances, and I’ve no doubt we will to end the season well.
