Vokes and Stanislas seal victory over Doncaster

This Is Lancashire: Junior Stanislas celebrates his goal last night Junior Stanislas celebrates his goal last night

BURNLEY stayed on course for the Premier League thanks to two second-half goals, reducing the gap to top spot to three points after leaders Leicester City were held to a draw with Yeovil.

Sam Vokes scored from the penalty spot to break the deadlock against Doncaster Rovers and take the Wales international up to 21 goals for the season.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Junior Stanislas then capped a man of the match performance with the second – the winger’s third of the season to seal it for the Clarets, who would wonder how they went into the break goalless after bossing the first half.

But there was only one winner once Vokes had converted his second penalty in as many games, following a foul on Ashley Barnes.

The result means Burnley head into Saturday’s televised clash with leaders Leicester knowing that a victory could take them top of the table.

We absolutely battered a Doncaster side fighting for their lives last night, and could have won by much more.

Bring on Leicester, even without Ings, Trippier, Marney and potentially Barnes we will still beat them and take a step closer to the title.

It's not a good time to be losing key players, although we have been fairly lucky with that this season so I suppose it had to come. The main thing is we've done the hard work and the fact is, with eight game to go and with the lead we have, we don't have to be that good for the remainder as only a collapse of biblical proportions could stop us now.

We've no chance against Leicester and even if we rag the one result they're still far and away the best side in the division.

Made me laugh how Football Focus commented on Dyche on Saturday. Do they actually think he built this squad? Why has he had no success elsewhere with his blueprint and philosophy. People are even up and down on Wenger after all this time. Every dog has his day and this is both Burnley and the Ginger Potatoe head's. He's riding his luck, as is the club.

It's all going to come crashing down.......just a matter of when

I'm not bothered if we happen to be lucky enough to win it. The target is automatic promotion and that means finishing above 3rd place. Saturday is not about the championship title as its Leicester's to loose irrespective of the result. Its about attaining points towards our goal and maintenance of the 10 points gap to 3rd. I expect Saturday to be our hardest game of the season given we are playing the current best team in the league and they will want to prove their credentials at the Turf.
Doncaster escaped with a defeat by only 2 goals, i'm still trying to work out how.

I agree with most of your post, promotion is the one, anything else is just a bonus, but I don't think this is our hardest game of the season. We have already played that, at Leicester away and we got a draw. I'm not falling for all the Leicester hype being touted in the media. They are a very good side, without a doubt, but let's not forget that we have pulled back a 13 point lead. They are there to be beaten and I believe, dependent on injuries, Burnley are the team to do it. To listen to some people in the media and certain managers you could be forgiven for thinking they could walk on water. They have just scraped an injury time draw at home against Yeovil and thrown away an apparently unassailable lead at the top.
Their are TWO extremely good teams in this division and Leicester are one of them. Last Saturday there were dozens of Rovers fans saying that Leicester were by far the best team to visit Ewood this season. Oh yes? I seem to recall they got a draw, what does that say about all the teams that actually won there this season?

Oh and by the way - a quick message for all you Rovers horse-fingerers like Turf Moor Tom:

The mighty Clarets are now 28 (TWENTY EIGHT) points ahead of poor old Blackburn in the Championship table.

You have nine games left, which, as most of you don't have the capability to add up correctly, means you have just 27 points to play for.

Which means you can't actually finish above us now - AND IT IS ONLY MARCH.

MARCH??? What a joke your team is, can't wait until next year when you are forced to sell Rhodes, Hanley etc just to try and avoid the inevitable FFP hammer that is going to come crashing down on your neanderthal heads, and seeing you plummet into financial and footballing oblivion.

Long live the Venkys.

You're pretty much home and dry now lads. QPR just don't have the bottle or consistency to worry you. Got to say you fully deserve it you've had a remarkable season and have one of the best up and coming managers in English football. Have to add also that if you manage to keep your quality players such as Trippier, Ings, Shackell etc and add a bit of extra quality in the premier league then I don't see why you can't make a good go of it. No sour grapes from me just trying to express a fair view!

As always Ewood, nice to hear from you and hear you giving such decent comments as I am sure you are hurting like mad. I believe we can make a go of it next season if we don't lose anyone and strengthen as well. We are definitely a better side than the last time we were there and we only went down then for the want of, I think, 2 points.
I only hope that if ever the tables are turned I can be as fair and decent as you have been. Best of luck for the rest of the season but, in all honesty, I think you're going to need a good chunk of it.

I know I'm expected to give you as much grief as possible since you're our arch rivals and its second nature but lets be honest there's not really anything Rovers can use to have a go. We had our time in the 90's and now its looking like your time to be the success of East Lancs. I'm just appreciating the fantastic season Burnley have had, especially on such a small budget so it's good to see you're doing one over on the big spenders like QPR and Forest so good on you. Shows money doesn't always buy success.

The best thing about it all, apart from getting one over on you guys of course, is we have made QPR look ordinary. I thought all the hype about them pre-season was over the top. The way it read it was as if everyone else was playing for second place and play-offs; they were going to walk it apparently. Harry ('Arry) Redknapp is a knowledgeable bloke and a decent man but is he not the most over-rated manager ever? Why is he touted as the man for the job every time the England job comes up?
It will be interesting to see who makes the play-offs. QPR look safe but Derby are stuttering. Wigan, prior to last night are looking good. Reading are no great shakes and Forest look to have blown it altogether. There may be room for Rovers but they have to get some consistency, a commodity they have lacked all season. Watch this space for Ipswich, after last night they could come up on the rails.
That's it as far as my predictions go, I'm notoriously bad so don't expect any of the above.

You mean like Charlton for one, who according to one no dad when we beat them 3-0 last week, a doddle really – like last night – we played poorly. What would they give to play so poorly and win a game. They haven’t beaten a top six side yet. They’re all raving about ragging a draw with another mid-table team last night.

I think the main thing in his/her post is "consistently highest rankings for comments". This proves beyond doubt what I've been saying for months to other Clarets, it is done for attention, nothing else. There is never anything of worth in what they post and they can't even see the stupidity of there own comments. I will not respond to anything they post and neither will I like or dislike them for the same reason. The only reason for this post now is to make clear that I believe Rovers fans are football fans with valid points to put across, even in banter and taking the mick, which we all do, me included, but this individual should really never be let near a forum on football. Rest easy Ewood, they are NOT an embarassment really because I din't even believe they follow football at all, let alone Rovers.

And you can't see the irony in this statement?

Keep Darwen Green, FakeVilla, Bubblepop FC etc etc these are all your monikors and I have even seen a post on the Blackburn pages from Blackburn fans telling you that they know Turf Moor Tom is a Blackburn fan and that you are "Embarrassing yourself".

Brilliantly ironic
That makes no sense whatsoever. Do you actually understand irony??

Strangely, the Blackburn pages are full of Dingles so there's no real basis to your theory of "embarrassing myself".

All I state is simple fact, we're having a lucky season with a small squad though we still have very little infrastructure, a poor stadium with few supporters and have no chance of achieving anything so all our efforts this season are simply futile.

Futile? Apart from the great wobbly piles of cash, you mean? A way to secure, yes, perhaps Championship status, but secure nonetheless.

If nothing else, next season will be a smash and grab. That's the WORST case scenario. Personally, it's epically more that I was expecting at the start of this season.

Apart from the great wobbly piles of cash, you mean? A way to secure, yes, perhaps Championship status, but secure nonetheless. If nothing else, next season will be a smash and grab. That's the WORST case scenario. Personally, it's epically more that I was expecting at the start of this season. stevewhipp

I think it's rather pathetic really that someone who shows no sign of real wit or intelligence should be critical of someone else, educated beyond the realms of what they would appear to dream of, for what is a TYPING ERROR. They obviously didn't notice that I also put "din't" instead of "don't". Still, straw clutching is a good pastime if you enjoy it.

Are you a total smuck!!!!! Yeah, thank God you were correct. Better go and remind them in Luton, I'm sure they're bothered. Probably about as bothered as Burnley are 'Mighty'. Leicester will show Burnley how to play football given half a chance if the ball is allowed to stay on the floor.

You're not worth responding to as you're obviously on a different planet.

Regarding Luton v Leicester - please refer to the thread above to which I was responding you halfwit.

If a flame burning brightly is being second in the 2nd tier then I think you'll find Rovers flame burned brightly many times under Don Mackay back in the 80's!! What happened after that and how brightly the flame burnt obviously created some sad, bitter people.

Anyway, you enjoy your 2nd place in the 2nd tier. When does the trophy get put in the cabinet for this oh so impressive achievement??
