SUNDERLAND-born striker Peter Noble definitely fits into the category of a Clarets legend.

He was a stalwart in the side during the 1970s. His derby moment came on Boxing Day 1978, the last time Burnley won a derby match at Turf Moor.

Paul Fletcher had already given Burnley a fifth-minute lead before Noble doubled the advantage just before half time.

Kevin Hird pulled one back for Rovers, but Noble’s goal turned out to be the winner.

That goal was one of 63 Noble scored for Burnley in the 243 games he played before falling out of favour after the departure of manager Harry Potts.

He left the club in 1980 aged 35 and spent three years at Blackpool before finally retiring in 1983.

He returned to Burnley upon retirement, opening a sports stall on Burnley market which remained open for 20 years.
