BURNLEY opened up a three-point gap in second place in the Championship with a 1-0 win over Bolton, after Sam Vokes took his partnership with Danny Ings to 40 goals.

The striker's 16th goal of the season proved enough to clinch it for the Clarets, who had a pre-match boost by QPR missing the chance to go back above them with Monday night's defeat at Derby County.

Bolton had the better of the first half, responding well to losing a two-goal lead at home to Bournemouth to be held to their ninth home draw.

But there appeared to be only one winner once Vokes side-footed in Scott Arfield's cross from close range.

And that proved to be the case as the Clarets backed up Saturday's win over Millwall with three more points - their first win away to Bolton in almost 29 years.

remember when this paper had a survey and asked who would finish highest and most fans said rovers , the same lot said the bubble will burst and its only early days or the squads not big enough , iings trippier will leave , wrong on every thing and 34 years is laughable as its about now, as ever manager in football will tell you and there the ones who know the game and players best

Tonight reminded me of winning at Blackpool away the season we went up.

Similar swirling conditions. Scrappy with neither team getting a grip. The home team edging the first half. Then a single goal.

Winning ugly is, sometimes, not easy on the eye, but 3 points is 3 points......

40 goals between our front two really is special.

Opposing teams have the dilemma of keeping Ings quiet and up pops Big Sam!!!!

Getting off that car park at the Breeze Blok is usually a ball ache, but seeing that half of Bolton were long gone, we were off in no time!!!

NO NAY NEVER

First win away to Bolton in almost 29 years. The Clarets are smashing all records this season. Ings/Vokes 40 goal partnership is immense. There is no team in this division that can cope with Burnley's attacking play.

The jealous no-dads are literally filling their pants at the thought of us turning them over at home, Ewood will be Claret and Blue on the afternoon of the 9th March. An historic derby win and 3 points to push us closer to automatic promotion will be the icing on the cake.

16 points.

It was an excellent away performance tonight. We soaked the pressure easily in the first half and dominated the second. Our goal came from a brilliant incisive passing move that cut Bolton to pieces.

With neither QPR or Leicester playing on Saturday, we could be five points behind with Rangers playing Reading and Leicester playing Forest.

We are in a great position and have got big games at home against Leicester, Derby, Forest where we are unbeaten for almost a year.

Pathetic little record?
1. it's more than a lifetime, whether you break it or don't.
2. It's not gone yet.
