We don’t even look at league table, says Burnley ace Ings

DANNY Ings says he is still refusing to look at the Championship table – despite helping Burnley back to second place with a brace on Saturday.

Ings scored twice and could even afford to miss a penalty as the Clarets won 3-1 at home to Millwall, moving them into an automatic promotion spot once more.

QPR can leapfrog them again with a draw at Derby tonight, but Burnley know they will be second if they win at Bolton tomorrow – no matter what happens at Pride Park.

FROM BACK PAGE Ings, though, is paying little attention to those possible permutations.

His focus is on using the Millwall victory to kick-start another winning run, after three successive draws, rather than looking at where the Clarets are in the table right now.

“We don’t want to look at the league table,” said the forward.

“We’ve got a thing at the training ground where we get told off if we talk about it.

“There’s no fine if we do, but I think the lads don’t want to talk about it.

“We could lose focus if one or two take a look at it, but the lads are so switched on to what we’ve got to do.

“We’ve just got to go into every game trying to win and do our best.

“Some people said we had a little tiny blip when we were drawing games but performances were top drawer.

“We were creating loads of chances and playing very well.

“Our performances were still just as strong as when we were winning.

“Maybe a bit of luck wasn’t on our side but I’m sure we can go on another run now.”

Ings was in sensational form again on Saturday to take his tally for the season to 24 goals.

He recovered from seeing Stephen Bywater save his first-half penalty to net a brilliant second goal against Millwall, and feels optimistic that he can prolong his scoring sequence – even if his first career hat-trick just eluded him again.

Links to a number of Premier League clubs during the January transfer window did his confidence no harm either.

“Obviously it’s a confidence boost but as a player you don’t really take it in, you just carry on playing your football,” Ings said.

“I’m on a good run at the moment and I’m going to work as hard as I can to keep that going.

“I was disappointed I didn’t get three but that’s football and to bounce back after the penalty and get another goal was really big for me.

“It’s important you do that, if you miss a penalty, it can happen, it’s how you bounce back and I managed to clear it out of my mind and carry on.

“Me and Sam do have a little deal, if I win the penalty I take it but if anyone else wins it he can have it.

“The last time I missed one was in the play-off semi final for Bournemouth against Huddersfield. I was disappointed it didn’t go in but it can happen.

“We knew the win was coming. We’d been playing very well in the last few games and we knew that someone was going to get well beaten soon.

“It could have been four or five but we were happy with the win.”

The team spirit and belief we have is incredible, and it's this that will see us finish the season strongly and keep the pressure on for an automatic promotion spot. Couldn't ask for more out of the players so far.

Ah, Danny, love you like a brother for what you and the lads are doing this season, but give me a break, I just can't believe you don't look at the table or at least talk to people who continually remind you of how brilliantly you are doing. Be proud and glorify in your achievements this season, whatever happens now you have given us Clarets something to be happy about. Dare to dream young man, dare to dream.

I am guessing by your spelling and punctuation that you are one of Blackburn's most intelligent supporters?

Get back in your horse sunshine and stop bothering the grown ups.
