FULL-TIME: Yeovil 1, Burnley 2

This Is Lancashire: Danny Ings and Sam Vokes both scored Danny Ings and Sam Vokes both scored

DANNY Ings and Sam Vokes combined to do the double over Yeovil and get 2014 off to a winning start in the Championship.

Top scorer Ings opened the scoring with a stunning finish, arrowing his 21st club goal into the top left corner after David Jones had won possession midway inside the Yeovil half.

With Yeovil lacking quality in the final third and Burnley unable to convert further stayed the scoreline remained unchanged before the break.

Burnley should have wrapped things up after Vokes rounded off a well-worked move, following good work by Dean Marney, by side-footing in from close range.

Further chances were either saved or squandered for the Clarets, and Yeovil reacted.

A bizarre goal for the struggling Somerset side made for an anxious finale for the Clarets, in which new signing Ashley Barnes made his debut from the bench as a late replacement for Ings.

Substitute Kieffer Moore crossed from the left, but the ball beat everyone in the box and sneaked past an unsighted Tom Heaton.

Yeovil worked hard for a second, but Jason Shackell worked harder still to put up strong resistance, including a brave block to stop danger an Ralls on the left hand edge of the box, to secure the win.

It surely can't STILL be 13 points can it?

Even after all this time? Even after all their big talk about a Christmas capitulation, and Burnley's "usual" disastrous run over the holiday period?

Are we really STILL 13 points ahead of the no-dads?

With 3 out of the next 4 games at home against Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton and Millwall, and our fatherless friends about to have their backsides handed to them by City in a demoralising Cup thumping followed soon after by a trip to Nottingham Forest and then against Derby, that gap could well expand to around 20 points by February.

Poor old Blackburn Rovers.

Another good win for the Clarets and the best strike force in the country combining once again to keep us in an automatic promotion spot, and well clear of the filth.

Another big three points as the mighty Clarets march on STILL in an automatic promotion position.

The big three are breaking away now and we have Leicester, Derby, Forest, Brighton, Ipswich and Leeds to play at the Turf where we are unbeaten in almost a year.

Things are looking up and Blackburn have got some tough games coming up.

Lovely jubbly.

Looking at a league table only tells you current league places. It doesn't tell you what is about to happen or not happen. Nobody knows the future. Burnley plummeting is simply your twisted Rovers wish. The table shies you are closing the gap on us by, well err, not closing it. I see you getting relegated and going bust. Sadly it's just a wish. That's exactly it, as one of the best sides in the league we DON'T care about what lower to mid table sides like Jordan Rhodes fc do, unless you are playing a sidw that are up there challenging with us.

Oh and I wouldn't worry, you are far to poor to get into the top six.

You've missed the point. I am bantering about the gap between Rovers and the Clarets. Its about who will finish's higher than the other, not that both may miss the playoffs, both may find themselves in the playoffs or one (or both) might go up directly.

The gap between Burnley and Blackburn is far greater than a mire 13 points. We have a better history, better fans, better ground etc, etc. Just because you have been higher in the league for a few months doesn't make you better. Considering the turmoil the club has had to endure over the last three years it is a miracle we are still going. Just worry that despite everything we can still stop you getting promoted, because when we meet you in the playoffs that will signal the end of your season.
