Burnley confirm medical for Brighton striker Barnes

BURNLEY manager Sean Dyche is hopeful of making Ashley Barnes his first cash signing, after confirming the striker was having a medical with the Clarets.

A fee, believed to be around £750,000 plus add-ons, was agreed with Brighton last night, with the 24-year-old travelling up to East Lancashire for talks today.

Dyche was hoping the deal would go through tonight, or at least in time for Saturday's game at Yeovil, despite Leeds United making a rival push for the front man.

"Something was agreed between the clubs and he's in having a medical with us," said the Burnley boss.

"It's one that we've been working on for a while now.

"The agreement between the clubs came late last night."

Of the prospect of having Barnes in the ranks for the weekend's Championship clash, Dyche said: "Possibly, it depends on all the boxes being ticked with the medical and financial side, but that's active as we speak. We're hopeful there's at least a chance of that.

"We're possibly looking towards the end of business today, depending on if we can align things appropriately. We're getting there."

And you guys almost came when you signed Rudy Gestede and Tom Cairney - both of whom couldn;t get a game with their actual clubs.

Barnes has played 24 times this season for Brighton - a side above your set of mid-table strugglers, so hardly a reserve is he, you goon.

Given Dyche's proven abilities to make silk purses out of sow's ears, he's obviously seen something in this guy, along with the other clubs that have been chasing him (Leeds, for one.). It's not all about a player's ability at another club or clubs, it's also about the players fitting into the team's work ethics.

To put your fears firmly to bed fellas... You're getting a good guy in Barnes (should you get him).
The majority of us don't want to see the lad leave but given he is just 6 months away from his contract ending, we would be silly to lose him for nothing in the not to distant future.

The guys a Trojan and really puts in a shift very game... Defenders hate playing against him and as he matures I'm sure that his sometimes questionable finishing will improve.

Know you're getting a good one here.

Good luck except in a couple of weeks

BREAKING NEWS Transfer window watch update: Barnes on brink of Burnley switch

6:21pm Thursday 9th January 2014 in Albion By Andy Naylor

Albion striker Ashley Barnes is poised to complete a move to Burnley tomorrow.

Barnes has passed a medical at Turf Moor and agreed personal terms, The Argus understands.

Leeds United's hopes of hijacking the deal appear to have been dashed, barring a last-gasp change of heart, although confirmation of Barnes' departure from The Amex is not expected until the morning.

He will move north for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £750,000.

Thanks SMF for you comment.

I have seen him play a few times and he has a very good work ethic on the pitch.

Has he not been offered a new contract ? Does he not fit into the Managers plans? Or does he want to leave?

Maybe a change of scenery and coaching staff will help improve his finishing who knows ? Manager sometimes see certain things in players looking from the outside in.

Great Stadium your team now have and great to see you back home. Best of luck for the rest of the season but hopefully we can take the 3 points from you at the Turf.

Cheers again SMF.

Thanks for the kind words soulboy. Brighton are a well run club and, like us, have been through some tough times in the lower leagues, so it's good to see you doing well.

Agree about the ex-player syndrome, we've had Martin Paterson score twice against us as well as the inevitable David Nugent goal in tbe last couple of weeks!

Good luck for the season.

Brighton fan here in peace.

Thanks for that SMF 20. Although you say good luck to us except in a couple of weeks............ Isn't it nearly always the case that when a player faces his old club. He plays well or even scores. Happened to us in the cup last weekend.........lol. Good luck in your push for the play offs. U.T.C. :)

LOL why would i pretend to live in Australia? I'm a proud born and bred Aussie and just as proud Blackburn Rovers fan. Following such a small club as you do i know it's hard for you to believe that other, much bigger clubs have supporters from many other countries in the world. Blackburn Rovers have a rich, proud history and are world renowned where as the vast majority of people in would never have even heard of Burnley let alone follow the club. I highly doubt they'd even know they had a football team........

So if minus 54.5 million is rich some one ought to tell the bankers and financiers of the world, because they seem to think that a minus figure is a debt, not a credit.
Yes, I do believe that Venkys are now world renowned, all because they bought a small english club, and sped up the amount of money this minnow of the EPL was loosing. Winning the interest of the worlds press and brand name Venkys became global.
As an Aussie you'll have heard of HPC football or upper90 college both work in partnership with Burnley FC, running football academy's across Western Australia, three in New Zealand. Looking to expand into malaysia, singapore and korea.

'Vast majority of people in would never' ?
Lancashire, England, UK, World. Which?

As for proud history, don't believe the hype. All myths and misdirection, they spin a good Yarn.
