New director Nelson kicks off board role by cheering Clarets to win over Blackpool
NEW director Brian Nelson kicked off his new role at the club by watching Burnley return to the Championship summit.
The 65-year-old Nelson-born businessman was appointed on to the board last week and celebrated with the Clarets’ 2-1 win over Blackpool.
Speaking before the game, Nelson said: “I’d like to have a 100 per cent record as director and take three points.”
His wish was granted thanks to goals from Danny Ings and Scott Arfield.
And Nelson praised the work of manager Sean Dyche and his players, who go into the Boxing Day game at Middlesbrough top of the table.
The director said: “He’s proved to be an excellent manager. We look like a team, we play like a team.”
Nelson said the specifics of his role as director had yet to be ironed out, but he said he was proud to have a greater involvement of a club he has been a lifelong supporter of.
“It’s a dream come true to be a director,” he continued.
“I was never able to play for them, so I suppose the next best thing is to be a director.
“My wife and I are in a position to buy some shares and to help the club we’ve supported all our lives.”
